The fair desert rose of wondrous mystique
Her gossamer blossoms bring life
like a mirage in the sand
The beauty lies not in the rose,
but in the strength she embraced

Bali Gears Up for 7th Fashion Week !

Hanzky in BFW 2007 — August 30th, 2007

BaliFashionWeekCapitalizing on the success of previous years events, Bali will host the annual fashion showcase and trade event once again. The event, dubbed ‘Bali Fashion Week VII‘ will take place on November 22-25, 2007 at the Discovery Kartika Plaza Resort, Kuta, Bali.

Some of the agendas are FashiONthestreet, Fashion Talk Seminars and Discussion, Trade Show and Expos, Art and Fashion Performance, along with the International Designer’s Fashion Show highlighting the event. It will feature Bali’s prominent designers such as Oka Diputra, Putu Aliki, Muji Ananta, and Bintang Mira to name a few. The glamorous runway scene along with Bali’s vibrant art and culture creates an exotic balance of art and fashion unique to the industry. This year’s event, themed “Fashion Meets Art” will feature a wide variety of spontaneous and unexpected attractions, particularly through the street carnival. All the different elements of Bali Fashion Week is aimed to raise the profile of the many highly talented designers to be found in Bali and the rest of Indonesia. Bali fashion week is not just a celebration of fashion, but also serves as a means of boosting the economic potential of Bali, both as a tourism destination and as a place in which to do business.

Pioneered by Mrs. Ika Mardiana, an Indonesian born Hong Kong based designer, Bali Fashion Week has been highly successful in supporting Indonesia’s fashion industry, promoting it abroad and attracting the interest of many buyers, volunteers and media representatives and even participants from abroad, for more than seven years. Organized by Moda Bali Convex, the event has gained popularity year after year, evidenced by the growing number of participants. This year, it is expected that no less than 200 participants will take place in the event. “Everyone is now eager to take part in Bali Fashion Week”, she said. The participation of International Designers has encouraged a spirit of healthy competition, allowing local designers to better gauge global demand and tastes.

Bali Fashion Week will also feature competition to promote those new to the industry. Among them are ASIAN Student Fashion competition where fashion schools can send two of their fashion design students to participate in the competition. The Award Model Competition offers new models access into a professional model career as well as a look behind the scenes of what it is like on a daily basis for an aspiring or professional model, to give them a chance to be recognized and to break into the world class modeling. The winner for 07 Bali Fashion Week Models Award will have a chance to be invited to walk at the fashion show in the Hong Kong Fashion Week in January, 2008. Finally, the Fashion Photo Competition is seeking participant that brings a fresh photographic style to the fashion industry, fashion media, and captures the spirit and quality of Bali Fashion Week.

Bali Fashion Week is truly a well rounded fashion event. Bali’s impeccable venue creates an atmosphere unmatched in the industry. We will continue to follow on the progress and keep you updated on this special event.

Origami Inspired

Hanzky in A/W 2007 — August 21st, 2007

This coming fall trend is gearing toward minimalist movement, it’s about clean lines, structured and sharp shape. It defintely shiting away from the slouchy shape and the lace, ruffles details.

One detail that kept popping up on the fall 07 runway was the origami/paper folding detail. Christian Dior (especially Dior Couture), Marc Jacobs, Salvatore Ferragamo, Giambattista Valli, Christopher Kane, Proenza Schoeler, Donna Karan and other designers have employed this technique in their collections.

I haven’t seen the high street labels pick up this trend in here. It’s probably because this technique is hard to recreate on a computer or in a factory. Overall, I’m loving this trend….it gives the clothes a nice touch, still simple yet feminine at the same time. It’s also classic in a modern way.

When? Friday Night, August 9 2007 (hence the title; 09:08:07)
Place? The Hall, Senayan City
Theme? Futuristic
Inspiration? Star Wars, The Incredibles, Fantastic Four, Aeon Flux, The Island.

Lanvin A/W 07

Hanzky in Runway Report — July 13th, 2007

The image on the left is the advertising campaign for Lanvin Autumn/Winter 07-08 collection, featuring Olga Sherer and photographed by Steven Meisel. I really like the ad, it’s very eye-catching. I like the combination of black background and colors that pop, I like the striking silhouette that created by the pose. This ad has the right mix to make it stands out from the other ads and it also portrays the whole collection brilliantly. Every single pieces on the collection offers the modern minimalist chic theme, with bold colors like purple and red in clean silhouette and luxurious fabrics. Alber Elbaz (the designer) is flirting with volume a little bit, the dresses come with built-in curves (small waist-wide hips cut), and voluminous sleeves and dramatic pleated neckline that is playful yet elegant at the same time.

kimora lee simmons

Hanzky in Books & Magazine, Celebrity, Runway Report — September 9th, 2006

i am not trying to comment on baby phat s/s 07 collection here..i mean..it’s baby phat..what do you expect??..hehehe..the most laughable thing was the fact that some of the models were wearing grills!!..heheheh….

in kimora lee case, it’s either you love her or you hate her. i know it’s easy to dislike her as she can be too ‘in your face’ sometimes and likes to flaunt her wealth. style wise, i’m not a fan of her style either because she’s more of a miss roberto cavalli and versace while i’m more of miss bottega veneta and celine H&M. but hey i like to give people the benefit of the doubt and that’s why i still picked up a copy of her ‘fabulousity’ book and read it cover to cover. and let me tell you, the book is very impressive..i’d recommend it to anyone. it totally changes my image about her as she is actually smart, talented and witty. i heard she is actually pretty humble in person too. the book is filled with instruction manual on how to empowering yourself, being strong and confident, managing money and relationship with others, it’s written with good insight and great humor. definetely no nonsense stuff. the spirit she spreads in the book can be quite infectious and really just what i needed..although it still didn’t change me to like babyphat…:p

btw, kimora lee is from where i live (st. louis)..she used to be a runway model back in her highschool days before she married her husband (or is it her soon to be ex husband?), the hip hop mogul, russell simmons. the pictures above are her closet..it’s been known that she has the largest collection of louis vuitton bags in north america.

bcbg max azria
lots of feminine dresses with mute colors and chiffon materials. i’m not a fond of the shoes/boots that are worn though .

verrier
ashleigh verrier, one of the newbies, she is still 24 years old and graduated from parson, her collection can be found at saks fifth avenue. her collection is not bad at all.

miss sixty
ahh i dislike the whole collection, the only two things i like are the bag that gemma is wearing and the skinny/ankle denim pant. the whole make up and the hairstyle is also totally unappealing .

nicole miller
waahhh pretty..the whole collection is just beautiful. i especially love the colors!!
