i don’t. i’ve given up on lipstick since long time ago. really, i think they are a tad bit overrated. the only lipstick i still care is my anna sui (very moisturizing and smells good) and the pro longwear lustre from MAC, this one stays all day but it’s not meant to be used everyday as it can be drying for your lips. anyway, this is what i’ve been using as lipstick replacement.

burt’s bees lip shimmer that doubles as lip balm. for $4 each you can stock up and put one in each of your purses. it comes with 11 different colors, it’s very moisturizing and gives you the cool-refreshing peppermint taste. it also gives a nice shimmery color without the feel of heavy lipstick. and unlike lipstick, you won’t need a mirror to smear this on your lips.

I left my Estee Lauder advance night repair back home, so I was desperately need some sort of night cream to help me get through this winter weather. I could’ve easily bought the same thing again but I wanted to try different product because even though I didn’t feel any problem with the Estee Lauder ANR, I feel that it didn’t work its magic on me. I haven’t seen any improvement on my skin, (I know that’s maybe because I haven’t been using it long enough). Most of the time, the case with skincare is not what you see, but what you don’t see. But I’m a sucker for anything that can give me instant result..:D.

The one ingredient that I want in the jar is the retin-A/retinol. One of the ingredients that the dermatologists has seen crystal-clear demonstration that it works. It’s been popular since a few decades ago. Good for its anti-aging effects, helps normalizing the cell and affect the retention of collagen. (Btw, collagen is what gives skin its structure, firmness and elasticity, the older we are, the less collagen that the cells produce, makanya jadi ada yang namanya keriput, kulit kendur/ sagginess and loses fullness (makanya banyak yang jadi pada suntik kolagen).

Kalo dulu retin-a ini cuma bisa di dapat dari dokter aja, tapi sekarang udah banyak produk produk kecantikan yang menggunakan retinol. You have to be patient though, karena biasanya dalam 2-3 minggu pertama, it can make your skin look worse with redness, flakiness and peeling, tapi jangan khawatir karena seharusnya setelah itu baru deh keliatan dramatic improvement-nya.

Setelah cari cari review nya di makeupalley.com (hehe, I would never buy skincare without reading all of the reviews in there), RoC is supposedly really good. I’ve seen their products in Walgreens but never cared to find out more about it(I was a sephora snob, remember?!..:p). I never thought that it’s actually a French based company, founded by a collaboration of dermatologists and pharmacist. I got the RoC retinol actif pur anti-wrinkle night treatment, the price is good for my wallet ($17.99). So far, even though I haven’t noticed much improvement (it’s only been a week..)..I do feel that my face looks a bit brighter and it doesn’t give me rash so I can continue using the product while crossing my fingers that it will work..:D.

Btw, while we are on the beauty product subject..anyone know where to find Burt bees,Origins product, Crabtree & Evelyn and BareMinerals/Escentuals in Jakarta? I have received a few emails asking me about those products, but I don’t know where they could be found. Kayanya nggak ada yah?. I think the best bet is to order from amazon.com.. sorry I’m not much of a help here.

Gue mo nanya, loe tau ga dimana sih gue bisa beli lip balm nya burt bees, nyobain bare escentuals dan origins di indo?
Kayaknya liat blog loe dan comment2 orang, tiga merk ini OK bgt, gue jadi penasaran.
Soalnya selama ini gue dah nyobain bermacam2 merk skin care (dari estee lauder, biotherm, ROC, ErHa, dan terakhir yang lumayan cocok shiseido) masih belum nemuin merk yang cucok buangeth.

Tentang burt bees, gue nggak tau tuh beli nya di mana kalo di Indonesia…temen gue ada yang udah nyari (nggak tau sih dia nyarinya di mana aja) tapi nggak pernah nemu, makanya kalo ada yang ke sini pasti dia langsung nitip selusin..hehe. Bisa sekalian baca baca customer review nya tuh. Origins (lagi lagi) gue juga nggak tau..yang jelas authorized dealer untuk 3 brand ini sih nggak ada ya, tapi mungkin aja ada local boutiques/individuals who carry these stuff. Tapi kalo Origins ada sih di Singapore sama Malaysia, di dept store kaya isetan/metro gitu. Jadi kalo lagi jalan jalan kesana atau ada temen yang kesana bisa nitip deh. Oh iya bisa juga kok beli origins dan burt bees di amazon.com..nah tuh enak kan bisa sekalian belanjanya….coba aja browsing2 yaa..=)

not everything is created equal and not all of the expensive ones necessarily better than the cheaper ones. here’s what i have found so far from reading all of those magazines, and also from personal experience. btw, i define cheap/inexpensive stuff for the ones you can find at drugstore/walmart and expensive for the ones that can only be found at sephora or other higher end beauty counters.

what to save:
- Cleansers. as long as they cleanse your face really well, why bother spending so much when you can get the same result using the cheap stuff. i’m using cetaphil and i’m happy with it. saya juga ada biotherm cleansing milk which also cleans very well, tapi pasti yang lebih murah juga ada. bottom line is, you should spend less for something you will wash off right away, and spend more for products that stay on your face (moisturizer, night cream, etc)

- Mascara. maybelline is my all time favorite. i have bobbi brown but i still like my maybelline better. lagian mascara shelf life nya nggak lama, jadi mendingan beli yang murah meriah aja.

- Sunscreen. well, untuk seluruh badan, i use neutrogena..tapi kalo untuk muka i find it hard to find the inexpensive ones yang nggak greasy dan bikin muka keliatan berminyak. so far i like shiseido and dr. murad best.

- Lip Balm. the $1 works just as well compare to the $20 ones. burt bees is my favorite.

- Eye Make up Remover. I’ve never used eye make up remover because i feel my cleanser cleans my eyes just as well, do they really have different ingredients for the face and eyes?. pokonya yang jelas kan asal bisa ngebersihin mata dari eyeshadow aja kan?.

- nail polish. i don’t wear nail polish, so i couldn’t careless about this one, heheh..but it’s one of those that you don’t need to spend so much on karena nggak begitu tahan lama.

- Lip Glosses. well, i think no matter what the brand is, they don’t last long on your lips and you have to reapply it throughout the day. the drugstore ones have all kinds of colors imaginable, so you should find the one you like there. my favorite one is from rimmel.

what to splurge:
- Foundation. seperti yang udah pernah di tulis di postingan kemaren kemaren, it’s hard to find the right foundation dan biasanya the higher the brand, the more shades they have jadi kita lebih gampang cara shade yang paling match sama kulit kita. formula nya juga lebih bermacam macam, ada yang liquid, creamy, powder, etc. lagian kalo beli di drugstore itu nggak bisa di coba, tapi kalo beli di sephora or stand alone make up counter bisa di coba dan bisa minta sample juga. I’m using bareEscentual right now and i’m loving it..=)

- Powder. I’m not sure kalo yang ini sih soalnya memang sih banyak higher end brand yang konsistensi nya lebih bagus, lebih silkier and smoother dan juga tahan lama. so if that’s what you’re looking for, you should go for the higher end brand..tapi kalo untuk sehari hari and you don’t mind reapplying it during the day..yang murah meriah juga ok kok..my mom uses bedak Marcks untuk sehari hari nya..hehe dan tetep keliatan bagus bagus aja kok. cocok cocokan aja kali yaa, dan tergantung foundation/moisturizernya juga sih. saya jarang sebenernya pake bedak..heheh karena memang nggak terlalu suka keliatan matte gitu, i like my face to look a little dewy most of the time..jadi nih bedak tabur clinique sama MAC yang compact nggak abis abis, i like them both..sekarang pake bareEscentual juga sih, hehe I’m really sold on their products..:D

- eye shadow & lipstick. higher end brands usually have more quality formulas yang lebih keluar warna nya dan lebih tahan lama, warnanya juga lebih macem macem dan lebih bagus di kulit.

- moisturizer. kalo menurut saya sebenernya sih ini cocok cocokan aja, tapi udah coba beberapa drugstore brands tuh biasanya oily gitu sih

- make up brushes. i didn’t understand this part at first, until i experienced it myself. memang beda deh brush yang mahalan sama yang murah…dulu mikirnya yang penting kan eyeshadownya, ngapain juga beli brush mahal mahal? tapi ternyata, they are worth the investment karena lebih well made, shape nya juga beda, trus density of hairnya juga, dan yang jelas nggak gampang rontok deh. lebih keliatan bagus deh make up nya…beli nya satu satu aja biar nggak berasa…lagian kan cukup beli sekali aja sampe selama bertahun tahun/sampe ilang..heheh.

just wondering ada yang pakai bare minerals (bare escentuals) nggak yah di sini? (i know mslu2 does..heheh). i’ve been meaning to try this product since a long time ago but always hesitant because i’m just afraid it will remain useless, stashed somewhere in my make up cabinet. tapi teteup penasaran juga sih, i want to have that luminous-but-still-look-natural skin like the models in their advertisement. apalagi produk ini sukses jadi pilihan para beauty editor dari hampir semua majalah. it is also best of sephora 2006.

i don’t wear foundation on a regular basis, malah bisa di bilang jaraaaaang banget pakai foundation, mungkin dalam setahun bisa di hitung dengan sebelah jari beberapa kali saya pakai foundation?…saya lebih suka pakai tinted moisturizer, it gives me enough coverage without looking too made up.

nah ngomong ngomong soal foundation, kayanya sering banget ya kita liat orang yang warna muka dan lehernya jadi belang gitu?..padahal muka nya udah di dandanin cantik cantik tapi tetep keliatannya ada yang aneh aja karena muka dan lehernya jadi beda warnanya. jadi gimana dong biar warna nya sama? put the foundation all over your neck??..hmm padahal kalo kata bobbi brown, the make up guru..harusnya setelah memakai foundation warna kulit muka kita jadi sama dengan leher kita tanpa harus lehernya ikut ikutan memakai foundation. hmm..berarti mungkin banyak orang orang yang salah beli warna foundation kali ya?? padahal it’s the most crucial step kan karena itu pondasi dari make up make up lainnya yang akan di taburkan di atasnya. and it should be visible, it’s there simply to even out your natural skin color, gives it a little glow and to give the impression that your skin is flawless..hmm anyone can help with this?..heheh..

ini ada beberapa tips yang mungkin berguna
- test foundation along your jaw line (not on your cheek, not on the back of your hand), it should blend easily into your natural skin tone
- apply foundation 10 minutes after moisturizer
- go with yellow-based foundation
- when in doubt about the shade, go with the one that’s one step lighter than your actual skin color.

ngomong ngomong, memang rambut model bob lagi trend ya di jakarta sekarang?? ada temen saya yang baru pulang ke jakarta dengan rambut bob nya dan dia sebel karena di kirain ngikutin dian sastro..heheheh..kocak!!!
