Imagine a 1950s Southern Italy, in summer, where all around you are sexy Italian women (think Sophia Loren!) who unapologetically embrace their sensuality and live their dolce vita or sweet life to the fullest. That’s exactly where Dominico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are taking us with their enchanting Spring Summer 2012 RTW collection in Milan Fashion Week. It’s molto Italiano!

In the first part of the show, models strut down the catwalk in 1940s silhouettes such as bras, hot pants, pencil skirts, jackets, and summer dresses with… vegetable prints. Food (and women) are practically worshiped in Italy, and Dolce & Gabbana realize that wholeheartedly. So amidst the abundant florals this season, Dolce & Gabbana presents us sexy, figure hugging ensembles with prints of colorful aubergines, chilis, tomatoes, garlics, and red onions prints. And look at the details! Pasta and garlic earrings! Bell pepper charm bracelets! You can almost smell a Sicilian outdoor market, and hear tan Italian sellers wolf-whistling. Mamma mia.

In the second part of the show, the colorful prints were matched with gorgeous macramé. Lace and appliquéd flowers seem to grow gracefully on the dresses, like climbing plants. Dolce & Gabbana also slipped in PVC dresses with crochet laces.

The last half of the show features blacks and nudes showered immaculately with sequins everywhere—either on linings or all over the clothes.

The show is closed with bodysuits embellished with colorful bursts of blings, showing that Dolce & Gabbana’s extravagant glamour is definitely here to stay.

In short, the collection is cute, wearable, inspiring, and the show itself is so much fun with girls swaying their hips to Sophia Loren’s ‘Mambo Italiano’. The colored lights hanging above the runway also add the festivity.

All in all, Dolce & Gabbana shows once again their consistent celebration of femininity and elegance.

I am not a big fan of Dolce & Gabbana’s flowery pieces, but I always love the 50′s silhouette and the all black collections….i love how the monotone embellishments & intricate details aren’t overpowering, subtle but glamorous…ove!!
