What better way to welcome Spring than bringing your hair up into an easy, breezy bun? The New York Fashion Week 2011 runways of Carolina Herrera and Vivienne Tam show us how it’s done.

Carolina Herrera

The hairstyle at Carolina Herrera was just as elegant as her spring show dresses. Hairstylist Orlando Pita created some sort of low ponytail-bun mix, making a polished yet natural look at the same time. “Carolina wanted something simple,” he said.

He started by blow-drying the models’ damp hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to straighten and provide soft hold. Then Pita created a middle part before pulling the hair back into low ponytail. The pony is then looped partially through the elastic, using the ends of the hair to wrap around the elastic for a more polished finish. Pita pulled out strands of hair in front of the ears to soften the style before giving a final spritz of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.

Vivienne Tam

The main inspiration behind Vivienne Tam’s Spring 2012 collection was Japanese Zen Garden, and the spirit was also expressed through the relaxed, organic buns.

Hairstylist Leon Gorman applied Redken Full Frame 07 Protective Volumizing Mousse to mold hair, then it was blowdried. Hair was then pulled into a ponytail, which was wrapped around the base to form a loose bun, and held in place with a few spiral pins. Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Hairspray provided a light hold.

Et voila! The messy side buns that looked un-styled. A few strands slipped out naturally as the models walked the runway, adding the effortless chic-ness.
