Exfoliation is removing old dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. Our skin naturally sheds billions of skin cells everyday. Some factors can make this process slow down such as sun damage, dry or oily skin, aging and when this happens, it causes dead skin cells to build up. This is what makes your skin look dull, flaky, full of blemishes, blackheads, white bumps or uneven skin tone.
The most common form of exfoliator that most people use is scrubs but unfortunately, scrubbing isn’t really effective because they only reach the top layer of your skin while the built-up skin cells are located deeper than what the scrubs can reach. To get a maximum benefit of exfoliation, you need to use chemical exfoliator such as AHA (alpha hydroxy acid such as glycolic and lactic acids) or BHA (beta hydroxy acid, also known as salicylic acid) products. We’re going to talk about AHA and BHA on the next edition of beautypedia
By removing these unhealthy skin cells, you can get cleaner, smoother, more radiant skin without clogged pores and blemishes. Now who wouldn’t want that?
How often should we exfoliate? It depends on your skin and the kind of products you use. Some can be used everyday, some can be used two or three times a week or even once a week. When you exfoliate too much, your skin will most likely tell you. As quoted from cosmeticscop.com, exfoliating does not negatively affect how healthy skin cells are generated in the lower layers of skin. If anything, exfoliating unhealthy dead skin cells on the surface of skin can improve collagen production, increase skin’s ability to hold moisture, and allow pores to function normally!
So do you exfoliate regularly? What product do you use?

AHA or alpha hydroxy acid used as chemical exfoliator was explained more in our Exfoliation article here http://bit.ly/otcag8
the BHA (beta hydroxy acid, also known as salicylic acid)
remind me of salycil talc ahahha
can I use that, for exfoliating?
or I get it wrong ?
I think salycil talc contains salicylic acid but I don’t know how you would use that for exfoliating
Dulu padahal gue hobi banget sama scrub loh. A little bit obsessed with it even, I must say. Sekarang jadinya katanya kulit gue kayak thinning, so I’m avoiding harsh scrub altogether.
BHA PC pastinya, seminggu 2 kali.
2% BHA from Paula’s Choice every day! No blackheads anymore!
ge pake bha PC kok ga epek apa2 ya
padahal berharap sangat kulit kinclong, pori rapet, free of acne n comedos…
Mungkin mesti coba BHA produk lain atau AHA? Gue sih dulu pake produk AHA-nya Erha cukup berhasil bikin kulit lebih mulus.
currently using Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-texturizing Micro Dermabrasion..
btw sal.acid has different level of concentration, the lowest is about 1-2% that are used on salycil talc, main purpose to reduce itchiness…
I used that too for a couple of times but it stung a little when I used it so I’m currently looking for something gentler.
dl rajin pake 2% BHA Gel Paula’s Choice, dilanjut Retin a and sekarang lg nyona sabun muka yg ada AHA sm BHA nya dr Hada Labo. Ga pernah suka sm yg namanya Scrubbing coz harsh bngt di aku…
I’m using SkinBiology’s LacSal Serum (singkatan dari Lactic & Salycilic) jadi sekali pake langsung AHA & BHAnya. Kandungannya 8,5% dan 1,5% respectively, dengan pH 4 (kalo ga salah), jadi cukup gentle buat dipake tiap hari.
Dulu doyan banget sama scrub, tapi sekarang udah ‘tobat’ deh, soalnya ternyata yang chemical jauh lebih ngaruh.
I’m interested to find out more about this SkinBiology’s LacSal Serum, might have to google more about it
Gimana hasilnya di kulit?
Gw pake BHA 2% Paula’s Choice tiap 3 hari sekali. Hari-hari di antaranya pake Clinique Turnaround.
Mayan banget sih komedo berkurang banyak
