We are so happy to announce that Fashionesedaily will be purchasing 10 tickets to World Pink, World Without Breast Cancer : A Charity Event which will be held on November 16, 2008 at the Fountain Area – Grand Indonesia Shopping Town. This is possible because of the generosity of our own forum members who donated a sum of money during FD bakti sosial activity last Ramadhan. FD Baksos was initiated by the fabulous Tinkerbell and supported by many FD forum members. We managed to donate the collected clothes, food and money to a number of orphanages, institutions and other communities in need. You can read about the activities here.

Anyway, from what is left in this charity fund, we feel that it is appropriate to donate some of them to this worthy cause. After all, 100% of the selling price of these tickets will be donated to Yayasan Kesehatan Payudara Jakarta - an organization which is committed to deplete the late-stadium breast cancer cases in Jakarta by the year 2020 by raising awareness on the importance of early detection.

So, now we have 10 tickets to the event. What do we do with them? Give them back to you, of course! After all, this is all possible because of your donations so there are no other people who deserve to go to the event (and get those goody bags) than our forum members!

Here’s how you can win these tickets :

  • You must be our registered forum member
  • Please state your forum id/nick in the comment box below and tell us, what we can do to lower our risk of having breast cancer (for example, quit smoking, breastfeed, etc) or living a healthy life in general
  • Before you participate, please make sure you will be able to come to the event if you win (click on below image for details) otherwise, the ticket will automatically go to the next member in line
  • Contest is only open until November 10. So hurry!

We will choose 5 winners who will each get 2 (two) invitations to come to World Pink, World Without Breast Cancer : A Charity Event, where they will be able to watch the talk show “Early Detection for Breast Cancer”, with high-profile speakers such as Okky Asokawati, Melly Goeslaw and many more. The attendees will be served high tea and some entertainment from Saung Angklung Udjo (I’ve seen these guys, they are really good!). They will also get great goody bags from Estee Lauder, Clinique, Wacoal, Female Magazine and Grand Indonesia.

If you are also interested to buy invitations to this event on your own, please call 021 5201858 at ext. 4243 (Hendra) or 4210 (Ria Wulandari).

Special thanks to Lena for such an excellent idea!

gw bisa dateng Kla hehehe :D

gw setuju dan mendukung bgt kampanye breast cancer awareness di bln okt sbg media attention, krn incident rate tiap tahunnya yg terus meningkat. kampanye kayak gini bisa jadi wake-up call buat kita2 sebagai perempuan utk lebih concern kpd salah satu “aset” berharga ini hehehe..

    what we can do to lower our risk of having breast cancer;
    1. healthy lifestyle.
yg paling crucial adalah memperhatikan apa yg kita makan; avoid junk food, makanan kaleng, terutama yg byk mengandung pengawet. menurut penelitian, konsumsi soy products bisa mencegah breast cancer. setelah itu, stop bad habit, for example quit smoking. i know old habit die hard, but it’s not impossible. exercise juga ga kalah penting, klo kata dr. oz, jogging 30 menit di pagi hari sudah cukup (ok i admit i’m still working on this LOL)
    2. regular check-ups.
the earlier the detection of breast cancer, the greater the chance of getting fully recovered. kapan harus mulai rutin check-up? rata2 usia penderita kanker payudara 35-40 tahun, jd disarankan utk mulai rutin check-up sekitar umur 30 dgn mammogram 1-2 taon sekali. selain mammogram ada cara periksa sendiri yg telah disosialisasikan oleh lembaga2 kesehatan di Indonesia, namanya SADARI (Periksa Payudara Sendiri). caranya bisa di google, baca di mjlh ato byk disebarin di poster/flyer di RS/Puskesmas/Posyandu terdekat.

    HTH.

Hi, this is my two cents of how to lower the risk of breast cancer:

    1. Exercise. Researcher has found that there are relationship between exercise and the risk of breast cancer. 30 minutes of walking, three times a week can reduced the risk by 50 %. So, get moving girls!

    2. See your GP regularly, so you are sure that you are free from any kind of disease. Or if the doctor find there is a cancer, at least it’s still in the early stage where it is easier to be cured.

    3. Eat the greens! Yes, eat the vegies, it has been proved as well that it can reduce the risk of getting breast cancer.

    4. Maintain your healthy weight!!ahh…most difficult part for me :)

Believe me girls, whent the breast cancer has reached its advanced stage and spread over our body, it is very difficult to be cured :) .

Just additional information, the most common organs in our body, where the cancer is most likely to spread is to the lung and brain :(

  6. ketupatkartini says:

    Yay!! I want to participate!

a lil ‘thing’ we can do to lower the risk:
improve our lifestyle. (Im not gonna say ‘change’). yes, take a walk regularly. it’s just that easy.
have a milk, regularly, than alcohol. oh, please… alcohol just make ur risk increase.
self-checked our breast. detect any changes, or unusual shape around the breast.
if we are moms, breastfeeding your baby! one until one and a half years of breastfeeding, then it will lower our risk.

and hey, we already participate in supporting ‘World Pink’ event in Hijab thread, by wearing pink hijab on world pink day, 28th October. :)

Just got this from my friend Diana. Worth to read. Not that I wannabe one of the winners loh Kouk…:D Sorry long article.

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL , US

    1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

    2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s lifetime.

    3. When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.

    4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

    5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

    6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract, etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, etc.

    7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

    8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

    9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

    10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

    11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply. CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

    a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts.

Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour.

Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.

    b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soya milk cancer cells are being starved.

    c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

    d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.

To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day.

Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

    e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine.Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water — best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

    12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.

    13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

    14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

    15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.

Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

    16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment.

Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

    PLEASE REMEMBER:
    1. No plastic containers in microwave.
    2. No water bottles in freezer.
    3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

John Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.
Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies.

Don’t freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.

This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.

Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s just safer to use tempered glass like Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper.

The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran Wrap, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

I might not be the best person to give advice of how to avid breast cancer, but here’s my 2 cents

    1. Kurangin rokok (iya gw perokok dan gw tau itu buruk banget. So I wont say quit smoking, but I’m trying to reduce it :p)

    2. Try to lose some weight (resiko breast cancer untuk orang yang gemuk lebih besar. And loo whos talking…. meeeeh :( )

    3. Eat healthy food. Veggies and fruits for sure help a lot

    4. Drink less alcohol. No need for further explanation, you know the risk

    5. Exercise. No need to go to the gym if you don’t have time. Walk or take the stairs instead of lift counted, too :)

Ini resolusi tahun 2008 buat living healthier life :

    1. Don’t sweat the small stuff; stop worrying bout what could’ve been if I had done such and such.

    2. Monitor what you eat; as a mother of 3 and employer it’s hard to really maintain my diet (for me at least cos Madonna I’ll never be), so I just have to be really monitor what I eat and if I eat something “bad” I just have to make it up with eating something good later.

    3. Get movin’. Again, finding time is always difficult; an extra 30 minute a day is just hard to set aside, so I just have to climb up stairs (luckily no elevator here), walk to the eateries instead of ordering in, park my car a bit far from work, get your own drink instead of barking orders to si Mbak *shame on me*

    4. Loose weight, at least aim to reach BMI of normal weight. Alright, less than 2 months, I have lost just 1 kg total. blah

    5. Think positively toward yourself and others.
