Around 12 years ago, my mother’s best friend passed away from breast cancer. She was a beautiful, fun, free-spirited woman and she played a big part in some of my most treasured childhood memories. It was a devastating loss to our family and I still miss her terribly but I can not even begin to imagine how it must be like for her children and husband.

Breast cancers affect millions of people around the world. That’s the cold hard fact. And as women, we too face the frightening possibility of being diagnosed with it. But it doesn’t mean that there is nothing we can do. 98% of breast cancer cases can be cured if detected early. So you know what this means. Do a self breast exam. Get a mammogram.

On this breast cancer month, it can not be more apt if we participate on an activity that supports the fight against the disease as well as make a donation to help those who have been working nonstop to raise awareness on this cause. World Pink Without Breast Cancer : A Charity Event will be held at Fountain Area, Entertainment District Grand Indonesia Shopping Town, West Mall Level 3A on 16th of November 2008 at 3 PM. There is going to be a talkshow about the importance of early detection for breast cancer. To participate, you need to buy an invitation of Rp. 250.000 which will be fully donated to Yayasan Kesehatan Payudara Jakarta (YKPJ) – an organization which focuses its activities on raising awareness for early detection of breast cancer. You will also get a goody bag from Estee Lauder, Clinique, Wacoal, Female magazine and Grand Indonesia.
