Hey ladies, please help us welcome Cheyqua!!. She has joined Fashionese Daily as an Associate Editor effectively August 1. Over the past year, Cheyqua, who is a psychology student at Atmajaya University, has done a fabulous work for us, pumping out reports and editorials from latest fashion shows and events throughout the metropolitan. She’s been a longtime active member on our Forum as well and will work alongside us at FD where she will have the opportunity to handle her own FD Street Shot column published weekly. She will take random shots of people from various events to be published on FD blog. So keep an eye on her whereabouts for a chance to be snapped and featured on our blog.
Here’s a little Q & A with her so those who are not regulars at the forum can get to know her a little better.
Sejak kapan sih Chey suka fashion?
I used to be an anti-fashion kid. Dulu nyokap gemes banget sama gue soalnya gak mau di-styling-in ngikutin trend. Boyish banget deh gue dulu, fashion was not one of my interests. Sampai pada suatu ketika, I was 16 years-old back then, mulai deh tuh tertarik sama majalah-majalah fashion kayak Vogue dan Bazaar. Bukannya tertarik sama trend fashion yang dibahas, tapi justru sama fashion spread-nya! Baru deh sadar kalo ternyata fashion itu nggak melulu trend atau style whatsoever. Barulah dari situ mulai browsing-browsing history of fashion (I love vintage!), browsing the designers and the insiders in the fashion world itself. Soal trend dan style itu sendiri menurut guae adalah buah dari si pohon fashion yang tiap musim bisa beda-beda rasa dan bentuk buahnya *deileee beranologi kan gue …. hahaha.
So, what kind of style are you into lately?
I’ve always been a fan of androgynous style, and when it comes to androgynous style, I love Irina Lazareanu. Trus kalo tabrak warna sih hayuk banget deh, tapi itupun juga gak lebih dari 3 warna in the whole outfit. Pokonya jangan too much. apalagi sekarang suka banyak liat orang-orang yang outfitnya lebih rame dari pasar malem, mungkin sih biar dibilang stylish.. padahal mah, kata siapa ??? hihi..
Trus, what’s your goal in the fahion industry? Mau jadi fashion journalist, fashion stylist, fashion merchandiser or what ?
Definitely fashion journalist. I love writing, I love fashion, and that makes me love writing about fashion! Gue selalu tertarik sama perkembangan ‘dunia yang kejam’ ini soalnya. Sekarang sih gue lagi internship juga jadi fashion editor’s assistant di SOAP Magazine, alhamdulilah di sini bisa belajar banyak banget dari Thornandes James. Tapi jujur, gue ngerasa stylingnya gue koq biasa aja ya. Gue enggak bisa segila James yang ideanya enggak abis-abis terutama dalam merekonstruksi bentuk pakaian. Trus gue juga nggak lancar ngarahin gaya modelnya, dan gue nggak bisa make-up juga (nyesel gak ikutan kelas dandan FD taun lalu! hahaha). Mungkin emang passion gue lebih ke menulis daripada styling. Kalaupun misalnya bikin fashion spread, gue lebih memilih untuk nyumbang ide buat konsep dan lokasi pemotretan daripada styling dan pengarahan gaya. hahaha.
Tapi itu buat di majalah ya. Kalo my biggest goal in fashion sih (nyaris mimpi sih sebenernya hahaha), gua pengen jadi salah satu konseptor buat runway-runway besar macam runway-nya John Galliano yang penuh drama, Viktor & Rolf atau Hussein Chalayan yang suka gila-gilaan designnya. And last but not the least, meet Karl Lagerfeld in person. Terserah deh mau ceritanya gue lagi wawancara dia atau cuma jadi assistantnya aja juga nggak papa… hahaha.
Lima barang yang terakhir dibeli ?
Gue tuh jarang belanjaaa. Ganti yahh pertanyaannya 5 barang per-fashion-an yang terakhir gue beli semuanya sepatu! hihi
Karena bentar lagi 17 Agustus nih, apa mode asli dari Indonesia yang paling disuka?
Gue paling suka sama Kebaya Bali dan Konde! Too bad ibu-ibu dan tante-tante skarang lebih seneng rambutnya disasak aut-autan macam lagi adu tinggi-tinggian sasak, instead of dikonde aja gitu yaa biar rapih kan lebih enak diliat hahaha. Konde itu kan khas banget perempuan Indonesia. Coba deh liat film-film Indonesia jaman dulu, taun 80-an ke bawah. Mostly ibu-ibu jaman dulu selalu pake konde, lengkap dengan kebaya dan selendang, and I like it so much! (biasa kann, selera vintage hahaha.) And it’s such a rare view nowadays, right?
Trus gue juga suka ikat kepala khas pria-pria Bali. Lucu juga kan buat dipake sehari-hari. And please don’t make everything khas indonesia into trend, soalnya trend pasti sebentar booming sebentar ilang. That’s pathetic, turning our heritage into something that won’t last.
