YAY or NAY?

Lately, I start noticing people especially “young hipster kids” (read: fashion victims ;d ) around New York wearing skinny jeans/leggings tucked into their gladiator sandals. And last weekend when I saw a polling thread on People magazine showing several Hollywood celebs spotting this trend, I thought it would be fun to start a similar poll here on FD.

I would say it’s a cute styling option, just like the way of wearing a pair of ankle or knee-high boots over jeans during winter. But for summer, you’re wearing it with sandals instead. I personally think this particular styling would suit best to those who are blessed with long skinny legs, but it’s all about personal preference.

Gladiator sandals somehow have been around for quite a while, and I guess, they’re still going strong this year, particularly in the spring and summer. Since the strappy and tall versions could be found almost everywhere, I’ve been eyeing the ones that wrapped around the ankle with less straps, kind of similar to the Jeffrey Campbell sandals, as seen on the picture below. But I’m not sure I would wear them over my jeans, they would look horrendous on my short legs! Unless if they’re in heels maybe I would take my chance =)

So would you wear it ? Yay or Nay?

  1. candrakirana says:

nay. first, gladiator sandals is not boots no matter how high the straps goes. tucking jeans into boots during winter has a purpose: to keep the legs warm. second, it looks uncomfortable.

  2. domestic_goddess says:

klo kakinya panjang mungkin bisa jadi yay..
tapi kalo kaya’ vanessa hudgens kok jadinya soo nayyy… semakin accentuate her bulky thighs…:(

  3. lindy wirasati says:

kl gue Nay dech, secara sadar diri punya betis gede dan gak mau people liat aneh ke gue krn jadi fashion victim….Biar kata lagi ngetop gitu, gue gak tertarik nyoba

  4. lovemybags says:

def. a nay, at least to me.
i wouldn’t wear it like that ever although i have legs as high as my neck LOL
i prefer using tall gladiator boots with flowy light dress or skirt.
if it’s a short 1 strap gladiator, i’ll wear it with everything. i have a 1 strap i used for almost a year, wear it with jeans, with skirts, with dresses, anything :p

  5. jinitya says:

    nayy.. with a capital N.

i personally think gladiator sandals aren’t flattering. and above the ankles straps are only for those blessed with celery stick legs, even so they don’t look thaaat good. so, strictly one strap gladiator heels for me.. and, untucked.

i think this tucking thingy might be the start point for genie pants or jodhpur pants trend.. been seeing them around also..

  6. ngelzz says:

nay kalo gue yang pake.. hahahah.. ;p

tp si nicole richie pake lucu2 aja tuh..

  7. apple says:

nay… untuk model yg terlalu heboh…

    klo untuk sebatas mata kaki… bolehlah… :)

  8. putri_bramantyo says:

ngeliat vanessa hudgens so naaaaaay, males bgt liatnya, kayaknya maksa bgt

  9. cheyqua says:

namanya aja gladiator sandals.. mana ada gladiator pake skinny jeans/legging?? hahaha

  10. pinkylotta says:

    so so so Nay..
    kelihatan bgt dipaksanya..
setubuh sama cheyqua, mana ada gladiator pake skinny jeans! hhe..

  11. happineesh says:

nay, kok keliatan aneh, kalo jeansnya skinny dan ngepress banget mungkin keliatan lebih acceptable *dikit*, tapi kalo sedikit loose di bawah kok maksa ya :-(

  12. lygia says:

    for me it’s a NAY!!!
anyway I think it’s about personal taste though :) I personaly think that gladiators sandals are soulmates with linen, tule or silk skirts, long or short. I dressed so during summer. Somehow I can’t see it combined with Jeans! yay nay!!!!

  13. icha says:

    for me it’s nay.
but i would say yay if maybe the jeans is so skinny and the gladiator sandals only have one straps, that is acceptable.

  14. ibu francis says:

Masalah yay or nay sih menurut gw tergantung body orang yg makenya, kalo badannya rada ndut dan kakinya pendek ya pasti gak cucok la hay….
Terus emangnya comfort apa dipakenya buat jalan ?

  15. bagsfreak says:

nay, bt gw pake pribadi sih..
galdiator kan sandal cuco nya dipake sama orang yg punya betis kecil & lbh bagus lg yg kakinya panjang.. bt yg punya kaki spt itu sih kayanya yay

  16. berrynice says:

buat gw pribadi sih Nay. Abisan di Jkt yang pake gladiator biasanya anak2 ABG siy hihihi

  17. simandoux says:

ooow now I see where those come from. I thought the girl from my office didn’t have a full-length mirror :D I’d say nay. Kayak gak sengaja dan sloppy.

  18. missajeng says:

    NO NO NO!
I’m only 160, have David Beckham’s calves (not yet Maradona, like Loucee’s hehehe), and my body shape is pear.
Wearing gladiator sandals would make me look like ‘bebongkos’ (arem-arem, red.). Me wearing skinny jeans tucked into gladiator sandals equals fashion suicide ^_^

  19. oriku says:

Kalo ada haknya bolehlah :-) Tapi kalo teplek…nay

  20. stella says:

    nay..
    disastrous :(
    jalannya jg susah kyknya.

  21. purple_mandie says:

  22. itie says:

    nay…*sadar diri

  23. melaine says:

    Nay,…..nay..secara kaki gw pendek gitu..
klo tinggi mungkin cakep kali ya..tapi klo bisa dengan gladiator yang high heels..
    so nay..nay to me…..

  24. eLLa says:

    N.A.Y…
jadinya aneh gitu… kyk ada ulet2 gitu di pergelangan kaki…

  25. fhe-ch says:

    ah it’s so nay

  26. tasha says:

  27. shoes'lurva says:

knapa juga tu sepatu atasnya ga dimasukin di dalem..kayak pke dress pke belt ini pergelangan kaki pke belt hehehe

  28. Annisa Maulina says:

    totally a BIG NO NO

gladiator only fits for mini skirts and shorts, thank you!

  29. sj says:

definitely YES! :D it looks so hot :D

  30. Ooooohhhh so thats why that lass in the town had done that… Hmm.. well i’m kinda torn. to me i think it only works with minimal straps, a la Sienna. She looks awesome and so do the rest actually, they pull it off suprisingly. I have never tucked them in to skinny jeans (although i have very(!) long legs, but i do wear them with skinny jeans though, just squeeeeeeezing them over, and they look hot. I don’t understand how some people hate them with jeans, i have umpteen comments about my look, and i personally think it is great! So, i think it might be a yay on the right people, but.. *ergh* a nayyyyyyyyyyyy on the bad people, (i.e short, chunky calfs, as it would just attract attention to them!)

  31. candrakirana says:

maybe you should understand that not every people have the same opinion as yours. that’s life, baby.

  32. Tanny says:

YAY! i like it its different
    something daring

  33. theana says:

    mmmmmmmm…..bukan gw banget dehh…

  34. nittah says:

    kayanya nggaa…
first, nabarak banget. gladiatornya jadi ga keliatan.kecuali strapnya atu.. (bener icha **)

    second, terlalu kesepian…hehehe

–kalo pake mini skirt mah ok..

  35. Nokuphiwa says:

Oh YES OH YES YES YES, its H OW TEE TEE HOT!

  36. jenna says:

    nay banget deh………….maksa gitu makenya

  37. michelle C says:

    NAY ick disgusting

  38. Emily says:

yay, i think theyre amazing, and even though theyre quite chunky and masculine, they go with just about anything, depending on colour! YAY :)

  39. listiyani says:

nay nay nay.. ngga cocok.. nice try though..

  40. eva says:

Yes, its about being different… if it becomes popular i bet you’d say yes.. trends come and go and we look back and ask ourselves “i wore that?” .. but hey it was hot at the moment.. its not 4 every1 but if it looks good on u then do it! it makes my calves look curvier.. pretty toes, gladiator heels, and sexy pair of skinnies.. somethin tastfully interesting! :)

  41. Brigitta says:

Nay uhmm.. diliadnya aja udah ga asik.. Ga match gituh kek na..

  42. Kell says:

    NAY NAY NAY!!

Definitely the worst trend going around. I was appalled to see one of my best friends trying to pull this off. It doesn’t look good on ANYONE, even people with nice, long legs.

Really, tucking your jeans into sandals? That’s like trying to tuck jeans into flip-flops.

  43. sarah says:

i think it is totally cute and i frequently sport the style – why not? i usually find that the haters are incapable of pulling off any of their own personal style. step outside the box, people.

and really, the analogy of “tucking your jeans into your sandals is like tucking jeans into flip-flops” … sub-par.
