Hanzky in Fragrance — June 11th, 2008
I believe I’m not a picky person, but I am very particular when it comes to fragrance simply because there are so many fragrances that are headache inducing for my poor nose. I guess that’s why I tend to go with the happy crisp fresh smell that reminds me of the ocean breeze, or the rain and the outdoors. My favorite used to be the Escada Sport Feeling free (too bad it’s been discontinued) and Giorgio Armani - Acqua di Gio, now my signature scent is both W by Banana Republic and Light Blue by D&G (a perfume that everyone and their neighbors seem to have). Those two are my everyday smell..I do have other perfumes from different notes, but they are my ’sometimes’ scent.

Lately, I’ve been searching for a new perfume, I wanted something different, something sweet and feminine but not too strong that gives me migraine in one sniff. I think I’ve found it in Vera Wang Princess, in a precious heart shaped bottle. I know this fragrance has been around for at least two years, but I didn’t really care about it eventhough the print ads featured my favorite Hollywood Celebrity, Camilla Belle..:D. Maybe because I saw the ads in Teen Vogue and always thought that this fragrance is for teenager and not sophisticated enough for ehm, a grown up like me..:D. But turned out I was wrong, it’s the scent that I’m looking for because while it’s not the usual fresh citrusy fragrance I’m used to, it’s light (maybe because it’s EDT) enough to be worn in hot weather and for everyday use. I think the delicious smell suits just about any age. It has a little bit of chocolate and vanilla, it’s sweet but not too sweet, and it’s soft yet flirty. I Love it…=)
So that’s my newest haul and my perfume habit. My mom is different, she just use one bottle and used that one all up. She still buys other perfumes, or got them as a gift, but she wouldn’t open them until she finished the one bottle she is using. Weird, I know!
How about you, do you alternate fragrances or just stick with one signature scent? What do you smell like today? I obviously smell of my newest perfume, with a touch of breastmilk smell that my baby (the real princess in the family) spit on my shirt..:D

So I am living in The Netherlands and was in Germany before, but hunted Urban Decay Primer Potion crazily which was unfortunately nowhere to be seen in these two countries. Then I asked Ms. Uberboston a favor to purchase (CP, as the Marketplaza regulars like to call it) the UDPP from US after reading so many excellent reviews. I was happy when I tried it because it lives up to its expectation, it’s great, very reliable, no creasing, it gives bolder color and give my eyeshadow a long lasting power. It just that the price is a bit too pricey for its small size, and the packaging is no help in reaching every bit of UDPP inside (unless you chop the tube in half). So I’m still searching for a cheaper alternative.
Until one day, Hanzky told me about this Artdeco eyeshadow base which is a German-origin product and available in almost European countries. I rushed to some famous online beauty forums, and figured out that it has excellent reviews and is approved by make up junkies all around the world. So I tried to recall where have I seen this product, because if I’m not mistaken I spotted it once nearby… but I can’t remember where.
Last week I went to Germany for some family gatherings. I kept on nagging at my boyfriend to grab Starbucks and visit a beauty store in the closest big city. So I wandered around the city and finally got it!!!. It comes in a jar, so you don’t need to chop it in half to get all of the contents. I think the quantity is a bit more than you can get from UDPP. What about quality? Tsk.. tsk.. tsk.. This eyeshadow base is no joke. Just one swipe of eyeshadow and the color popped up immediately. I swiped it on my eyes at two o’clock in the afternoon and guess what happened at midnight? The eyeshadows stay there like nothing happened, as if I’ve just applied it five minutes ago while actually I’ve spent the whole day outside, under a strong summer heat. The price? It cost me €7 or about Rp.110.000, far way cheaper than UDPP.
Here’s a swatch for comparison on how the colors turned out with no base, UDPP and Artdeco in lighter and darker room

Well, it’s obvious that floral patterns are the prints of the moment, every store I go at the mall, there’s all kinds of pretty floral prints to be seen, in all kinds colors. It’s like the city’s Botanical Garden has suddenly moved to the mall..:D. If you’re feeling girly, wearing this prints is the perfect way to satisfy the urge. But if it’s too much florals for you, you can try to tone it down with a neutral bolero/cardigan/blazer, wear neutral or at least solid color shoes, and leave your monogram bag at home..:)

It was a sunny Saturday morning. I woke up early, made a cup of coffee and brought it to the living room where my daughter was playing with her 2,5-year-old cousin. I’ve got 2 hours before the whole family showed up for a family photo session. 2 hours before the commotion began. So I chose to :
a) go back to sleep
b) excercise
c) dip my hands and feet in hot wax
If you answer C you’re right!

I guess it’s about time I start posting more of budget-friendly beauty finds. With the petrol price keeps getting higher, we can’t escape the fact that there are certain things that need reconsideration..like our shopping habit, right ladies? After all, being stylish is also about making it work within our own individual budget. As much as I love beauty products, there are other aspects in my life that are far more important and I will never compromise them by being unnecessarily excessive.
Alright, enough with the seriousness and on to the fun stuff!
I found this mini kabuki brush in Pasar Baru. There was no brand, no name, no information whatsoever about the manufacturers or where it came from. All I know is that the hair, albeit synthetic, is very soft and fluffy! I bought it without thinking and it only cost me IDR 40 thousand.
I used this brush to apply mineral veil, mineral foundation or just to buff both the powder and foundation on my skin. You can also use it to apply blushers. It doesn’t pick up too much product so it’s perfect if I want a sheer to medium coverage. And did I mention how incredibly soft the hair is?
So all in all, I am very happy with this purchase. It’s certainly not MAC #182 brush but at this price, I really can’t ask for more! I am really looking forward to finding more great stuff at the amazing Pasar Baru!

The Bag: Vintage Bag Modello Kelly Bag with 4 partition inside. Dunno the brand since I bought it from Annual Vintage Market here in town. But it’s made from real leather.
