64. Inside Hemlis’ Bag

Hanzky in Inside Her Bag — February 17th, 2008

The bag: LV multiplicité monogram canvas
(So abusive, me on this bag. Look at its shape that has lost its dignity. So loving its roominess and all those pockets!)

The contents:

  • Stila créme bouquet edt - sweet smelling fragrance that goes well to layer for emergencies
  • Car key with furla key ring - driver’s gone mudik, have to drive myself these days
  • Emergency “beauty” kit: Clinique superbalm, MAC lipglass, hairclip and band (I leave my makeup pouch in the car)
  • Toshiba thumbdrive - for transfering files, etc
  • iPod touch 16 gb in Sonyericsson p1 pouch - still haven’t found a proper case for my new iPod
  • Eonyericsson P1i mobile - for calls, emails, calendars (I feel like an odd in Jakarta for carrying only one mobile phone, but well …)
  • Mikli by Alain Mikli reading glasses - yes, my friends, been needing those since early 20’s
  • Small red leatherbound notebook from Armani Casa - Does Armani still make this stuff? got a few from Harrod’s sale a couple of years ago
  • Montblanc bohème bleu ballpoint and its case - got this one engraved with my name, as own birthday gift many years back (tell me about loving oneself too much!)
  • Kate Spade green leather pencil case - use it as case for my marlboros and lighter (not shown, don’t want to encourage, it’s a bad habit!)
  • Red Gucci card holder - to hold not my business cards, but many member cards of this and that shops
  • Black Lanvin men’s wallet - actually, the first branded stuff I bought with own money ages ago when I was a trainee in Paris

To tell you the truth, there are other stuff (read: junks) in my bag that are not worthy to be shown, such as this month’s salary slip that I still carry to cry over the tax money the silly government is charging the poor me! huhuhu!

Indonesian Designers @ Hong Kong F/W 08 Fashion Week

Ayip in Indonesia Fashion, Runway Report — February 14th, 2008

Ika, Indonesian designer based in Hong Kong, presented her collection for Fall/Winter 2008, inspired by the number 8. For her, the figure 8 is basically two zeros put together, one on top of the other. Some people also think that it is associated with the infinity symbol (an 8 turned 90 degrees). If you write out the figure 8 you can keep going and never ending; indeed it is infinity.

The shape of figure 8 is round, smooth, continuous and never ending and symbolizes prosperity, good fortune and double happiness when two eights - 88 - are put together.Hence, when we wear clothing or jewelery bearing the symbol or motif of8, it is believed that it will bring us good luck. The smooth, sinuous lines of the garments on Ika’s collections were reminiscent of the number that denotes prosperity and happiness.

Compared to the other designers in the same show, Indonesian designers brought outstanding collection and get attention from audience and the press.

Are You A Cult Member?

Uberboston in Face Escentials, Tools — February 5th, 2008

In my own definition: A cult product in the make-up universe is a product of many followers, who swear by its effectiveness in achieving a specific beauty objective of the user.

Ranging from the ultra-cheap pensil alis Viva to the uber-expensive La Mer creams. We are all raving about how these products work, and they work well! Recent cult products are the famous UDPP and the Smashbox Primer. In Fashionese Daily Forum, we are all swamped by the hype of these two. What about Shu Uemura eyelash curler? It’s definitely not too cheap for something that would send your boyfriend run away for his life, if you ever attempt on trying it on him. And yet people are still buying them. And MAC #187 stippling brush? Is anyone up for having a funky-looking brush in your roll case?

After long discussions with the friendly and knowledgeable makeup experts at the FD Forum, insider’s secrets shared by Darwyn during FD’s Kelas Dandan sessions, plus in my own light of how fun make-up is, the picks are compiled in this non-comprehensive, partial list of these cult products. The list aims to present the much-revered items in a spectrum of prices, from steals to splurges. So here it goes…
