Koukla in Face Escentials, Tested — February 18th, 2008

Even though looking tanned isn’t really popular in our country (which is ironic considering the numbers of girls who are blessed with gorgeous dark skin here) more and more women are starting to warm up to the idea of wearing bronzers.
The truth is, wearing bronzers is not just about looking tanned, this seemingly simple product can actually serve many functions. Women with fair skin can get a healthy flush of color just by wearing a little bit of bronzer, looking “sun-kissed” in the right places while women with darker skin tone can enhance the beautiful shade of their skin with bronzers. Dust it where the sun naturally hits your face – on the apples of your cheeks, across your nose, on your forehead – and voila! You’ll look like you’ve been spending time playing around on the beach instead of being stuck in the office.
You can also use bronzers for contouring by brushing it below your cheekbones, it’s proven to look more natural than using darker color foundations or powders.
So how do you choose a good bronzer?

Well there are many many products out there so choosing one shouldn’t be too hard. You should remember though that it’s important to look for a bronzer that doesn’t make your skin look orange. The goal here is to look healthy – not like oompa loompas. For fair-skinned girls, bronzers that are golden-toned look more natural while the “deep” shaded ones will look lovely on darker-skinned women.
You can also choose products that come in powder, lotion or gel formula. I personally like powders because it’s easier to control. I recently purchased a beautiful product from Tarte that is fast becoming my HG bronzer, it’s called Mineral Powder Bronzer. It’s not too pigmented so it will be hard to put too much on your face (unless you’re really trying) plus it has a soft pearl that adds instant luminosity to your skin. I chose Park Avenue Princess (Highly Pearled Light Yellow Gold) but if you want deeper shade, they also have Hotel Heiress (deep bronze shimmer). The chic faux croc compact will also get attention from your friends everytime you snap it out of your purse for touch-ups!
Finally, I will close this post by answering a question that I’m sure will be asked by at least one of you :
Do we still have to use blusher when we wear bronzers? And the answer is : do whatever you think looks good on you. It’s make-up, not science – there are no rules and we should all have fun experimenting!

Sometimes I have to be out and about in the sun for many days or months at a time, both for work and fun, so I relish my skin during the time I’m able to keep indoors. I thought I’d never buy a bronzer on its own. But a few days ago I just got Benefit’s Powder Pop, a combi of bronzers and blush, out of curiosity over all the hype. I’d probably wear these out, but I much prefer the result I get bronzing the natural way though, aka menggosongkan diri

bronzer is definitely a healthier way to get tanned, though i never have one myself. i’ve been wanting to buy one but never get around to do so. i think i might go to sephora one of these days and pick up one of those

Till now on I just use brush on beads by TBS and it looks good on me. I also use Revlon skinlights in gold as bronzer, for ‘no-make-up-day’

Daku belom nemu cara pake bronzer yg benar. Dipake tanpa blusher, muka jadi kliatan belang. Kalo pake blusher + bronzer, satu muka jadi merah semua.
Benar kata Koukla, harus experiment ajaaaa, biar nemu caranya. Thanks, Koukla…

wah kalo ngomongin bronzer, it is my makeup staple. I can live without blush on (for a day), but without bronzer, PIPI tembem gue gak nahan!!
2 bronzers that i adore:
1. MAC bronzer in Golden, I guess almost everyone can wear the shade.
2. Sephora Sun Disk in Soleil apa gitu lah. As for Sephora Sun Disk, the colour is much lighter and it builds up slowly with a hint of shimmer without looking like 80s disco ball. dan jujur, gue beli krn packaging nya. kayak giant compact powder with giant mirror. I’m in love with the huge mirror inside it!
Kalo application nya, I used to use blush brush, but now I’ve changed to Fan Brush. Yup! Fan brush. Just hold it in 45 degrees angle slightly below your cheekbones and apply/stroke it upwards. I like it upwards as it’s harder to blend at the lower cheek if the direction were downwards. Berantakan gitu lho.
As in the debate on whether to use blush with bronzer? My answer is that I do still prefer to add a touch of blush on top. tapi gue ga suka pake blush yg full di pipi, i prefer half pipi. mm, gimana jelasin nya ya, pokoknya stengah pipi yg deket idung gak dipakein blush. jadi pinggir2 pipi yg mendekati hairline aja supaya ga keliatan menor. mungkin karena kulit gue pucet, kalo pake bronzer doang, gue malah keliatan orange.
hope it helps.

gue pake bronzer-nya TBS biar kasih healthy color aja, soalnya kadang keliatan pucat dan capek. terutama kalo lama gak kena matahari. sekarang setelah kena racun blush *I’m blusing hereee*, ya makenya blush di pipi, bronzer di tempat2 yg dibilang Koukla itu. bronzernya juga sekilas aja, sekali lewat brush gitu cukup.
