Reading all the great feedbacks on the Teen Vogue thread in our forum and knowing there’re so many of us who are a die-hard fan of Teen Vogue magazine, Fashionese Daily is thrilled to have this exclusive interview with Jennifer Soo Kim, the person behind all those incredible Teen Vogue covers and fashion editorials.

- What’s your current title/position?

Producer.

- Could you please briefly describe about your job?

I produce all the cover shoot and main fashion stories for Teen Vogue.

- What’s the biggest challenge of being a Producer at Teen Vogue?

Trying to juggle all the different elements of a photo shoot, and make the concept and ideas come to life on the pages.

- How did you first start in the fashion industry?

I studied abroad through Boston University in London. I had an internship at the British Vogue house at Tatler magazine, in the fashion department. I was a fashion assistant, it was exciting to be on-set and work with the clothes.

- Who is your favorite photographer and fashion editor/stylist?

My favorite photographer is Tim Walker, he has these totally crazy ideas that he makes come to life, and it works. My favorite stylist is probably Grace Coddington at Vogue, she is such a visionary.

FD: Tim Walker is a London-based photographer. He used to assist the late Richard Avedon, and has shot the ad campaigns of Barneys, Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Gap, as well as editorials of Vogue, W, Harper’s Bazaar just to name a few. - Do you have any unforgettable moment during a photo shoot?

Being on set in Mexico, after the shoot the crew would just hang out on the beach.

- What is your favorite Teen Vogue editorial?

One of my favorite Teen Vogue Editorials is one that did not ever run. It was a shoot with Tim Walker, where I had to find Amphicars (cars that could drive on land and float in water). The whole concept was, amphicars sitting in the water with a floating screen, like a drive in theatre, but on water! I had to hunt down all the avid amphicar owners.

FD: WOW, wish we could see them published.. it soundsss so exciting! There must be some great pictures..

- Any advice for those who want to break into fashion magazine?
