Fall is here, and that means we will find more exotic skins bags on the shelves. Almost all magazine print ads from every handbag designers featured their heavily sought after exotic skins. With more people willing to spend for luxury, the high-fashion crowd are craving for exclusivity and toting one of the exotic skins bag is the only sure way to go. What makes it interesting is there’s a smaller supply of grade A skins available now since almost every accessories brand is offering exotic skins bags. No wonder the price tag is sky-rocketing.

Many of the designers are partnering with tannery around the world to secure their share, but the power houses like LV, Gucci & Hermes also own their own tannery along with partnering with other tannery. Nancy Gonzalez, who only produced handbags with 100% exotics, owns a croc farm in South America.

5 years ago, it costs Carlos Falchi $9 for 1 cm of alligator skin. It now costs him $25 for 1 cm. American alligator is the most expensive alligator because the skin is thicker yet softer. US government allots farmer only a limited percentage of alligator eggs for skinning in order to secure the species’ survival.

Nile Crocodile and Australian Saltwater crocodile are among the most sought after exotic skins in the world.

Python is the hottest skin of the season for many luxury-goods makers. California bans the sale of products made of pythons.

Anaconda, a native of the swamps of tropical South America, which has more regular-sized scales and a slightly plastic texture. Many designers turn to anaconda as a substitute for python.

So, do you own exotic skins accessories? If money is not a problem, would you get your hands on one of these? Which one would you choose? I personally would stay away from the snake skins, the thought of them coming back alive is just too horrifying..:D

  2. sLesTa says:

sebenernya the thought of these animals needed to be skinned so that we can carry it around and show off, kind of beyond myself.. but then again, we do the same thing for cows/sheeps for its leather. but these exotic skins are made out of the animals that’s almost extinct, while we have plenty of cows/sheeps around.

but i guess if i have to choose… i’d rather stick with cows/sheeps aja deh…. ok, fine, i’ll go with ostrich… but not too crazy about it either.

  12. lyn says:

sampe skrg gua ga gitu demen tuh sama exotic leather. apalagi yg phyton.. bawaannya ngeri aja kaya hanzky (pdhl gw ga takut ular). gua stick sama cow/sheep ato other materials aja deh.

  13. Koukla says:

Gue juga suka kok croc, tante2 apa enggaknya tergantung modelnya sih kayaknya ya. Gue pernah dioleh2in tas croc nggak ada merknya but I love it!

  14. purplerebel says:

shin, i am with you 100%. i think those animals need their skin more than we do. tapi sama juga kayak lo, gw masih juga pake yg cow and sheep hehehe.

hanzky, ular lucuuuu lagi *wuekekekeke (minta ditimpukin yg benci ular nih)*

sama kayak dys, gw juga gak suka banget ama leopard print. gw ama adik gw kalo ada di dekat orang yg pake leopard print, selalu saling mengingatkan :”jangan deket2. ntar diterkam lo!” hihihi.

  15. purplerebel says:

  18. There appears to be a big misunderstanding about reptiles in the leather accessories trade. It should be clear that most crocodiles are bred in captivity and not taken from the wild. All major brands, but not only them, are importing skins legally and this use is sustainable. If not, there will be no permits under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. This trade has in fact saved many croc species from extinction, of which the Nile crocodile is the best example.
