Last Friday my hubby showed me an online picture of this Malaysian prince who lead the Indian Cavalry during Indian Republic Day parade a couple of months ago, wearing a pair of Jodhpur pants as part of his Indian military uniform. Somehow, it reminded me of the ones from the Fall 07 collection of Balenciaga, Roberto Cavalli and Jean Paul Gaultier. Would those Jodhpurs be the next must-have items?
What are these Jodhpur pants anyway? To be honest with you, I don’t really know that much except from its name alone, that they must be originated from India. I think the name itself, Jodhpur really sounds exotic and could be part of the global fashion influence, following keffiyeh or shemaghs, the widely famed middle-eastern scarf and of course, turbans. Then after googling from different sources, according to Wikipedia, Jodhpurs are tight-fitting trousers worn primarily for horse riding. Originally, Jodhpurs (as worn in and around the city in India after which they are named) were tight-fitting only from the knee to the ankle and were flared above the knee; modern stretch-fabrics have allowed jodhpurs to be supportive and flexible.
With the rise of the wide-legged and high-waisted pants, these Jodhpurs definitely give us another option to our wardrobe. So FASH’on has a great DIY in making the Jodphurs, while Stylebubble posted an interesting review about them. I’m not sure I would be able to pull them off, although I’d really like to try them on just to know how they would look on an average body type. But where can I get them? Quoting from Stylebubble, it appears that the GAP stores sell them all over Europe and sadly not in the States. I may be late in spotting this trend but I haven’t seen yet any mass retailer in the US carrying these Jodhpurs, but they would probably receive a crowd of followers in Asia! Would you think these Jodhpurs would be the next pants du jour? YAY or NAY?

but personally, i think that only certain people can pull it off. & u have to be REALLY creative about it. i know a group of kl-ites who can pull this jodhpur pants off. i’d have to go with a YAY.

Never say never. Apakah di kota2 gede orang2 dah pada banyak yang make ? Bisa direport nggak from the street? Di NYC sendiri gimana mbak Dys, yg di London, Paris ? Kalo jadi mass trend, apapun yang tadinya jelek akhirnya juga jadi bagus dan gue bakalan mencoba. Aduuh korban mode sekaleee yah gue.

I would say NAY. Secara pinggul gue udah cukup gede and bahenol. Kalo pake jhodpur pants ini nanti kayak badut lagi. hihihihihihi…But I think some people could pull it off. Long skinny legs would be nice wearing these pants. Tapi pas gue liat yg DIY, kok berasanya tuh org kayak prajurit2 Iraq gitu yak. hihihihi…Need lots of confidence wearing this kind of pants. But still, I say N.A.Y!! =)

The classic pant, was made beautifully. They were very flattering, esp.(as always) if you had a flat stomach and good buns. The problem is with the lackluster designers who cant seem to recognize proportion,quality fabrics,and stitching. All they had to do was a look and copy. Watch “Dark Victory” with Bettye Davis and see just how good the “station wagon set” looked. Keep watching TCM and you can learn a lot

if you hv the guts and the body to flaunt them, go ahead, i totally encourage youu!.. some ppl actually manage to pull them off really well (e.g. stylebubble & kingdomofstyle) ..
to those who’re not sure *JUST LIKE MYSELF* if you manage to find them in a store, give them a try just to see how they’d look.. just to toss ‘em away if they’re not flattering at all.. BUT who knows right after seeing ppl wearing them we’ll change our mind
nothing is serious in fashion, it’s just a trend that we may love and hate..hehe =)))) remember the skinny jeans & leggings? how much ppl were against them in the beginning and somehow started to wear them anyway in the end +)
SunTea: di sini duluu banget pernah liat orang yg make di skitar daerah williamsburg dimana emang byk orang yg suka bereksperimen, kalo skrg blm rame bgt siy.. celana nya aja blm pernah gw liat di toko2 mass retailer US, malah di eropa yg uda byk sptnya.. plg di butik2 khusus kali ya…
belle : you’re right the classic Jodphurs must be very well made.. everything seems to be well tailored in the past and i think ppl hv a better body proportion at that time to pull them off.. and thanks so much for recommending the movie, Bette Davis is always stunning.. i’ll check it out ! wish i hv more time to watch TCM or even rent netflix nowadays..
