Indonesian Fashion Spot!

I know I’ve been M.I.A. for a while. It’s been quite hectic lately, my apologies for the delay =) I promised Hanzky to submit this D.I.Y project a long time ago. I had the chance to be part of the H&M 2007 summer ad campaign production team (assisting the stylist in NY), which was shot in Australia at the beginning of this year. One of my tasks was to make all of these surfer inspired necklaces and bracelets which I’m pretty much sure you could find them anywhere in our beloved country especially around Bali or any locations in Indonesia near the beach =) Unfortunately, none of them were sold in the stores, they were made just to get the look and create an image. It’s a no-brainer…no special skills required.. cupu abis hehe So, if you want to have that surfer look or just simply a beach girl kind of look, you may try to wear this type of accessories along with a glowing tan =)

I’d like to show you how to make the two shark tooth necklaces, which were used on the shoot. For the 1st necklace *as seen above*, basically what you need are:

You just have to tie the leather twine to the shark tooth. Then attached the magnetic clasp to the coral strand. And voilà, you’ll have 2 (two) layers of necklaces, which could be worn together or separately. Totally a piece of cake hehe ;P lol

The 2nd necklace is quite similar to the first one, still using the shark tooth in combination with an ethnic bead, and instead of a leather twine, you would use a hemp beading twine. I’m using a different ethnic bead here compared to the one on the ad.

Similar to the 1st necklace, you just need to tie the hemp to the shark tooth, and about an inch above the shark tooth, tie a single knot then place the bead and close it with a single knot again.

Below is what you need to make the 2nd necklace:

The shark tooth were bought from this store, Evolution, where they sell a variety of fossils, bones, tooth, etc.. but in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta I’m sure it would be really easy to find them anywhere, especially around Mayestik, Mangga Dua, Pasar Batu Jatinegara or even Pasar Seni *pls correct me if im wrong =) fyi: it doesn’t have to be a ‘real’ shark tooth, just try to get a lookalike, it could be a fake one, a plastic horn, or any sea shells !
