The LV Craze

Ever wonder how a Louis Vuitton store look like during great sale in Singapore? That’s how it looks *pointing at the picture above*!! This one is located in Ngee Ann City, Singapore.
I understand that LV stores in Paris (maybe even in other cities, like Tokyo, etc) would also create such a scene, where people would literally line up just to get in. But I really didn’t expect that to happen in Singapore… and yeah during the great Singapore sale!! Only that LV doesn’t do sale… ever!! So I guess they were all just tourists who happen to be at the same place ? I didn’t really care to find out even though I’m itchy to get in. Unfortunately I can’t afford an LV bag this month, so as a big LV fan, setting myself inside the store would not be a good idea because once I step my feet inside, I knew I’d probably eye myself on something… and wouldn’t get a good sleep at night thinking about it
As a big fan, I understand why people love LV, but the price of their products make me wonder how rich some people actually are that they’re able to buy these bags like buying a pack of peanuts. Even in Jakarta, where a bag could potentially cost half of one’s annual salary. It’s a given that most people associate these bags with social status. The more you have the (real) bags meant that you belong to a higher social status like the socialites where money is never an issue. However, often times people buy them with disregard of how much they earn, sometimes creating a big hole in their ‘always empty’ wallet. Is it really worth it?
Well, you tell me. As for myself.. I think the bag is worth every penny of it. Yes it is expensive, and I can’t always afford to buy one. But I know that my money is well spent because the quality of these bags is at top of the line. Unfortunately, for those socialite-wannabes, having one of these bags is a must. The bigger the monogram.. the better.. so they can show the world that they can afford to buy one. But thank god that wasn’t the reason why I own their bags. I bought them because I really like the style and I know I can depend on the quality through out the years. History proves that it has been around since early 1900s, so there’s no doubt that they make great quality bags. LV is especially famous in Japan. If I’m not mistaken, that’s where most of their profits come from. I know most Asians are crazy about the monogram bags. Do you think it’s an Asian thing? Or does the monogram attract westerner too??
Believe it or not, many of them are die-hard fans too. But I think people in the outside of Asia, for example in the US, have more options with different labels. The price of an LV bag is quite expensive, particularly for middle class workers. They can always get a better or at least similar quality bags at a cheaper price or at least on sale. Remember, LV’s are never on sale. After all, not everybody comes from a family with family-owned hotel chain.
When I was still in NYC, I had a conversation with someone about an LV on a subway train on my way to work.At that time, I was wearing a big LV monogram that would fit not only my work stuff but also my school books (I was taking my master’s degree after work at the time).
Due to the strain from the heavy books I’m carrying everywhere, it gives a bad dent to the handle. An old lady stroke a conversation with me and told me that I should go to the store and get it fixed. I thought she was just being a smart-ass and extra-friendly but turns out she’s a die hard fan of LV bags. She told me that she buys many LV bags since 30 years ago and still keeps them until now because they are ageless. LV bags are classic and elegant in its own way that don’t aged with time.
I agree with her. Her remarks got me thinking and I decided that I should get something from the store. But hey, this time it won’t burn a hole in my wallet, cuz it’s a wallet and its wallet doesn’t burn that easily…. hahhaha!

ibu editor, kayaknya last sentence di-edit ya.. jadinya meaningnya agak2 ngaco, harusnya gini:
But hey, this time it won’t burn a hole in my wallet, cuz its wallet doesn’t burn that easily…. hahhaha!
meaning that LV wallet is tough, man!! gue waktu itu jatoh pas lagi megang wallet nya. kulit tangan gue sampe kebeset2, sementara kulit LV wallet gue, no scratch, padahal gue jatohnya tuh berbarengan ama keseretnya wallet itu.
since then i truly believe their high quality of leather.. heheh..

Gue suka LV, tapi bukan berarti koleksi LV gue bejibun. Mahal bok!

at first I didn’t like LV at all since the fake ones can be found so easily so I thought it was soooo pasaran.. hehe.. but then, terutama setelah baca artikel ini, gua baru sadar kalo kualitasnya emang ‘nggak pasaran’.. temen gua pernah cerita kalo neneknya koleksi tas2 monogram LV dan masi bagus banget sampe skarang.. wow.. jarang bukan tas2 bisa awet banget kayak gitu..
maybe one day, when I make my own million dollar, I’d buy one..

gw ga begitu suka LV karena monogram palsunya banyak beredar dimana2 dan somehow gw merasa LV itu kok kyk tas yg pasaran banget (padahal palsuannya lebih banyak daripada aslinya mgkn). well, eventhough the quality is really good. coba kalau ngga banyak palsuannya, maybe i will luv those bags.

Karena gue tinggal di Paris, jadi gue juga bisa menyaksikan fenomena antrian LV di Champs Elysees. Kadang-kadang gue suka bingung…pingin beli barang mahal (ngga diskon, lagi), tapi kok mesti ngantri berlama2 ya? hihihi
Kalo yang gue liat, yang ngantri rata-rata muka asia dan shop assistantnya sendiri dateng dari berbagai negara (many are from China and Japan). Gue sendiri masuk toko LV baru sekali nganterin temen gue liat2. Walopun gue bukan penggemar LV (I think it’s just not me and thank God for that so I can save my wallet =)), tapi gue akuin the store is beautiful and I can imagine the LV fans will be crazy looking at the stuff from floor to floor…

well, gw bukan LV fans, dan gw ga gitu demen monogramnya, norak ah! using ur own label as part of the design? (correction: as THE design…) well, kualitasnya emang bagus sih, tahan lama gituhh, so the non-monogram ones are ookayy..
funny thing is, kira2 10 taon yg lalu gituw, Laba-Laba dapet stock epi leathernya LV, asli! huehehhee… jadi langsung dibikin belt gituh ma nyokap. tp skg dah ga bisa dapet lagi epi leathernya…

ive just got to LV megastore in paris last week..
ramenya emank ga nahanin.. tapi nyang lebih ga nahanin lagi, layanannya itu lho.. baru aja gw mau liat monogram speedy bag-nya, eh langsung diambil sama si penjual berbadan moster itu. he said “someone already taken this bag, so this one is unavailable”. sial. en bukannya nunjukin gw tas lainnya, malah diumpetin tas2 skitarnya. tipikal LV di sluruh dunia, ga ramah.

idem sama beberapa yang laen. gw malah ga gitu suka monogram-nya LV… nggak tau yah… mungkin krn gw dasarnya gak suka warna coklat. hehehee… tapi dulu waktu multi color baru keluar gue suka. cuma sekarnag dah bosen, mungkin krn banyak banget palsunya yah??? sekarang gue lagi sukkaaaa bangettt sama yg damier azur! cuma bingung, karena suka yg speedy 30 tapi nggak muat laptop. padahal gw bawa bawa laptop kemanamana… huuuh… apakah mereka akan mengeluarkan model baru untuk damier azur? I really wish so…
Hmm.. this article makes me really thinking about saving money to buy one!!! hehehe… emang segitu tahan lamanya ya dibandingin merek lain????

kalo gw sih oke2 ajah…ada model2 yg gw suka, ada juga yg gw ga suka. gw ga spesifik satu brand…yg gw liat modelnya. kalo modelnya nancep di hati (auchh…hehehe) langsung bungkuusss

masalah palsu2an…i guess every brand pasti ada palsunya kok…even sampe merk guess and le sport sac pun ada. so for me, doesn’t matter lah kalo ada palsuannya. abisan hari gini…susah nyari yg ga ada palsunya. kalo mau yg ga ada palsunya…buy the limited edition or design tas sendiri

Gw jg gak terlalu demen pertamanya liat LV, alesan nya sama kayak cheyqua, so pasaran. Tapi setelah melihat temen yg pake dan meyakinkan kalo kualitasnya ok, akhirnya tertarik pengen beli. Sampe akhirnya bulan lalu ke sing, haha.. masuk counter berkali2, tapi teuteup gak jadi beli, soalnya yg didemenin gak ada, pesen tapi harus DP50%, terus gak tau pasti kapan brgnya dateng
.. OOoo, thank u dah, mending cari yg laen aja.

Nothing against those who love LV, but to me why would you want to carry around a bag that half of the world is carrying? That’s my attitude on LV bags. I love designer bags, but I prefer bags that are not too ‘pasaran’. Many high end designer bags offer the same over the top quality as LV does. My philosophy on fashion is that fashion is about individuality and being unique. Tentu saja gak bisa one-of-a-kind (unless you are super rich to get a bag made especially for you), but at least gak samaan ama jutaan orang lain di dunia hehehe. My mom handed me down an LV bag, and I decided to ‘deface’ it a little bit by painting big ‘FAKE’ letters on it (although it is an authentic LV). That’s what I call an LV bag with a little twist :D. If I ever buy an LV bag myself, I would skip the monogram ones, and chose Suhali or Nomade instead.

pertama kali gue beli LV dulu sih karena gue bingung mao beli tas apa lagi. jadi gue beli damier speedy 30. trus kedua kali gue beli tas LV karena gue sebel beli merek2 laen yang sering nge diskonin barangnya. jadi pilihan gue tinggal beli LV or Chanel. Yang terus terang aja gue gak rela gak makan buat beli Chanel 2.55. Jadi gue beli alma in epi leather. alhasil, gue demen banget tasnya dan hati gue tenang karena gak usah khawatir bakalan sakit hati mikirin kemungkinan tas itu di sale.
setiap kali gue masuk gucci pas sale season, yg pertama gue lakukan pasti adalah ngecek tas yg gue beli setaon lalu itu di sale apa gak. kalo udah pasti gak di sale, baru gue seneng. hehe
anyway, cuma mo kasih tau aja, bulan kmrn gue ke hk n cowo gue beliin bokapnya sendal LV yg di jkt harganya 6 jt an, tebak deh di sana berapa duit…
4 jt an doang. jadi kalo mo berburu LV yg murah, pergilah ke HK yg deket, ato Paris yg jauh.
