Above is the newest Louis Vuitton ad featuring former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev. The ad is part of the company’s campaign to emphasize its luggage and travel accessories. Other public figures who join the campaigns are Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf and Catherine Deneuve. All photographed by Annie Leibovitz.
Gorbachev was photographed in the back of an old car, with Berlin wall as the background.
I think it’s a good move by Louis Vuitton. They are trying to regain their classic image in order to appeal more to the older generation, the businessmen, the travelers and the high society and also the male demographics. Mikhail Gorbachev represents power and intelligent. He also represents history, he ended the cold war and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990. I hope they write his name and a line that explains who he is because I’m pretty sure not many people know who this old man is, especially the younger generation.

Hanzky in Fragrance — July 25th, 2007

I know it’s still summer time in my part of the world, but the fashion industry is getting ready for the cold weather. Summer clothes are being moved to the clearance rack and coats are starting to occupy the window display. Magazine September issue, the most important fashion issue in magazine circulation, is going to be released next month. Fashion week is approaching too…new ads are coming and new fragrances are being launched. And there’s soooo many new fragrances to choose from. As it’s always been, there’s more new fragrances in the fall than in other seasons. I’m more in the mood for fragrances during the fall too I wonder why!. I’ll be sure to sniff some of these away when I visit the beauty counter.
From the Power Houses
Fendi Palazzo. The newest Fendi fragrance since 20 years ago. Karl Lagerfeld is involved in the project and he was the one who shot the ad campaign with Raquel Zimmerman as the model.
The smell: flowery-woody scent, which opens with top notes of mandarin orange, bergamot, lemon and pink pepper; it has middle notes of orange blossom, jasmine and Bulgarian rose and base notes of patchouli and Gaiac wood.
Price: 50 ml - $65 and 90 ml - $85
Prada Infusion d’Iris. The print ad is photographed by Steven Meisel featuring Sasha Pivovarova.
The smell: Orange blossom and mandarin, as well as base notes of galbanum, lentisc, benzoin, incense, vetiver and cedarwood.
Price: 50 ml - $67 and 100ml - $90
Gucci by Gucci. The first Gucci fragrance since Frida Giannini took over the reign. The beauty industry estimates that it could generate up to $100 million in sales for its first year at the counter. The ad campaign is photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matain and features Raqual Zimmerman, Freja Beha and Natasha Poly.
The smell: A rich, soulful chypre scent with exotic notes and warm florals, blend of guava and pear with a touch of sensual femininity from the creaminess Tahitian Tiare flower and sensuality from musky notes and honey and the strength of the patchouli.
Prices: 50 ml - $80 and 75 ml - $100
Bond No. 9 will launch 12 Andy Warhol collectibles with pop art style bottle and will retail
for $230 for 100 ml. The one with Swarovski encrusted will retail for $550 each.
A few from the list of fall new fragrances: Very Michael Kors, Voile de Fleur by Tom Ford, Kate Moss Kate, Emilio Pucci Vivacara, Emporio Armani Diamonds, Vivienne Westwood Let It Rock, Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker, Daisy Marc Jacobs, Gwen Stefani’s, Jennifer Lopez limited edition, David & Victoria Beckham and so many more! And oh.. another Hilton fragrance, called Can Can. Can’t they pick a better name?!

Juni 22 lalu kan cerita nya saya di interview untuk acara VOA Executive Lounge yang di siarkan di Trijaya FM, sama Ian Umar. Topiknya seputar para korban mode. Seru?! Pastinyaa…:o). So here’s what I think about Fashion Victim.
Some people are just so fortunate that they can just spend, spend and spend and the money on their bank accounts will just keep adding up.
Contohnya kalo lagi trend Mod jangan langsung rambut nya di pangkas ala Twiggy kalo kira kira nggak cocok sama bentuk muka. Just wear the boxy shift dress, or the big plastic bangles, or patent leather accessories.
So, did you spot any fashion victim lately??

Koukla in Face Escentials — July 23rd, 2007
I am a die-hard fan of the almond product range from L’Occitane. The shower oil is the product I turn to when I feel blah, when my skin needs extra moisture, when I need to shave my legs (they feel very smooth afterwards!) or simply when I need to inhale the delicious, creamy almond scent that seems to fill every inch of my bathroom when I use it. So of course I was excited to hear about their Almond Apple skincare range and was dying to try them!
I’m actually not the kind of person who tests skincare products recklessly, because even though my skin is not super sensitive, if a product turns bad on me, my skin won’t be able to bounce back from the negative effect as quickly as when I was still in my “prime age” (17 - 25 years old). So a woman needs to be careful about what she puts on her face, right?
But anyway, in the name of research, I brave the unknown and decided to pull out my sample stash from the drawer and try each product of the Almond Apple range. Just so I can report to you, dear FD readers, the results. Here they are :
I first tried the Cleansing Oil. This oil turns milky when mixed with water and smells like apple juice. I like the fact that it doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight (like a lot of cleansers do) yet doesn’t leave any oily residue either. However, I have a strong doubt that it doesn’t really clean makeup as well as it claims. I wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup when I tried this product on so I could be wrong. I just don’t feel squeaky clean, if you know what I mean.
Next, I put on the Toning Cider. I was surprised to find that the product smells almost exactly like apple cider and it was rather yucky. I felt a little sting when I tried it on my face and I suspected this product contains alcohol. A quick check of the ingredient list told me that I was right. I had bad experience using toner containing alcohol so I was a bit wary. But other than the slight sting, the toner seems to be working fine. It made my skin looks and feels smoother and toned.
The Velvet Concentrate was next. The texture is ..well…velvety and rich. I massaged it onto my skin as instructed on the brochure and saw immediate result. My skin definitely feels soft yet firm and the product was absorbed pretty quickly. 5 minutes after applying it though, my face felt slightly itchy. It was probably the effect of the toner combined with the velvet concentrate but again, I was cautious so I kept on checking my face from the mirror to see if there is any sign of allergy reaction (redness, puffiness, etc). Thank God there wasn’t any.
I should mention that I have also tried the Almond Apple Sweet Peel. I actually bought this product before I tried the others from this range. I must say it’s worth every penny because I’m loving it! It contains crushed almond shells that allows gentle exfoliation and leave my skin feeling soft and refreshed. Plus it has this yummy smell - much like those apple sauce for babies, it even has a similar texture!- that makes me want to scoop the whole thing from the jar with my fingers and puts it in my mouth! (I never did, of course)
Anyway, after trying on those products, I then went to sleep and when I woke up, I noticed that my complexion looks clear and healthy. I haven’t had any problems with my skin lately so to be really honest, I wasn’t sure whether the products were really working or I was just having a good “skin day”. So I tested it again and this time in the morning, just to see how it will affect my skin.
I repeated the whole step plus added Clinique City Block Sheer SPF 15. When I put on the Toning Cider, I felt a lot less sting and none of the itchiness when I apply the Velvet Concentrate. For the rest of the day, my skin seems to be in a normal condition - nor was there any difference in the way my makeup works. So I guess I can say that the Almond Apple range is quite safe although of course I need to use it continously to really know what kind of effect it has on my skin. But for now, with the exception of the Sweet Peel, I think I’m just gonna stick to my Clinique 3-Step products.

I’m sure some of you have read it a while ago.. Miuccia Prada has designed the costumes of Appleseed: Ex Machina, a sequel to 2004’s Appleseed, a futuristic Japanese 3D animation movie, which is scheduled to premiere in October this year in Japan, followed by other countries. Two costumes were designed for heroine-warrior Deunan Knute.
The designer has accepted to do the costumes because she was inspired by the first movie. “Watching the previous ‘Appleseed,’ I thought that the expression of contrast in man and machine, violence and love was wonderful,” the designer said at a press conference for the movie in Tokyo, Japan. “I designed something contemporary that matches the movie’s feelings,” added Miuccia. WWD has reported that the movie appears to be connected to her Fall 2006 “Metropolitan Armor” collection. Meanwhile according to ELLE.com, it is more related to her Fall 2007 collection. I really can’t wait to view her ‘virtual’ designs in that animated movie. I think it’s absolutely brilliant to implement fashion into animation or visual arts. Having those two elements syncronized together, it totally shows how fashion has been moving forward to a new playground.
