Shocking!

Unless you’ve been living in the jungle, I’m sure you’ve seen the ad (either in magazines or on TV) for L’oreal Volume Shocking mascara. Yes, the one with Aishwara Rai. While I for one second never buy the idea that my lashes will look like Miss Rai’s after using the mascara (they are so obviously retouched), I am quite curious to try it anyway. Maybelline, L’oreal’s sister brand, makes great mascaras so I thought L’oreal will not disappoint either.Volume Shocking Mascara comes with a lash primer/base on one end and a mascara on the other. The primer is applied using regular mascara brush and it’s pretty simple to use – just put one or two coats and make sure you cover every single lash entirely. The big ‘shock’ was the mascara brush. Instead of a regular brush, it’s using a sort of little comb that in my opinion, makes it tricky to apply the formula correctly. It made my lashes clump horribly and created a mess on my lids. But the formula itself is actually great. It really does thicken my lashes and it did not smudge one bit even after I had them on for 6 hours! In fact, it’s so waterproof that you’ll have a hard time removing it thoroughly (tips : use oil-based cleanser).
After trying it on my own, I finally brought it to my makeup artist friend and asked for his opinion on the product and application. He played with it for a while and concluded that the little comb is actually what’s supposed to give the ‘shocking’ result IF I know how to use it correctly. He then showed me how :
1. In front of a mirror, tilt your head slightly upwards
2. Look down
3. Lift the skin below your browbone slightly with one hand
4. With the other hand, comb the mascara starting right at the roots of your lashes, then slowly move the comb upwards in a zigzag motion
5. Practice, practice, practice!
After he applied it on me, I looked at the mirror and wow! I must say, my lashes look fantastic! It looks as if I’m wearing false lashes, it’s so thick you can see it from miles!
So the verdict? This is a great mascara once you get the hang of using the little comb. I am actually tempted to try using a regular brush with it just to see what would happen. Also, this is definitely not a mascara for those who look for a natural-looking result. This is for girls who like ‘em thick, super black and a little vampy.

I use mascara rarely thus I don’t have one on my cosmetic pouch. However I really want to try this one
i have this one already, as u said, it clumps horribly when i first applied it, but with alot of practices it does make a statement for your eyes!
Mo beli juga ahh…I like mine thick tapi nggak mau super vampy juga sih..mungkin harus coba coba dulu kali ya, kalo pake nya nggak tebel2 mungkin nggak vampy2 amat. Setuju maybelline makes the best mascara (apalagi untuk ukuran drugstore make up!)
dari waktu itu gw pgn beli tapi takut gak memuaskan soalnya gak bisa di coba but upon reading this review i think i’m going to give it a try.
Koukla, mo nanya dunk..yg bener tuh klo pake mascara tuh, dijepit dulu bulu matanya baru apply mascaranya or the other way around siy? knapa ya klo gw jepit bulu mata melengkungnya aneh? kaku gtu kayak huruf L kebalik..ga bisa natural..any tips or trick? thanks!
gua pake maskara ini buat keluar malem or resepsi gitu2 aja. soalnya ya bener kayak namanya, volume shocking. ga lucu donk gua pake siang2 bolong ke kampus. kalo buat ke kampus paling gua pake maybelline.
I agree w/ u this mascara clumps horribly and very drying. Kayaknya kalau pake brush biasa nggak akan dapet efek yg sama ya? Soalnya I found that the mascara that have the mini comb applicator applied the mascara really good. Tapi untuk yang loreal ini combnya kurang melengkung dan kecil jadi susah untuk menjangkau sudut2 mata.
I tried one from Shiseido the Make Up and Shiseido Majolica Majorca, they have very good mini comb applicator and the formula of the mascara is really nice. Of course if you wanna pay more. But the Loreal one is really good for the price you pay

Mendingan sih dijepit dulu baru pake maskara. Soalnya kalo pake maskara dulu baru dijepit, biasanya either jadinya menggumpal atau malah kecabut bulu matanya loh!Trus cara menjepitnya, dijepit dari akarnya bulu mata, trus pelan-pelan gerakin penjepit bulu matanya ke arah luar sampe ujung bulu mata sambil dijepit2 perlahan. Biasanya lebih natural sih hasilnya daripada dijepit di satu bagian aja

I’ve never tried any of the Shiseido mascaras. I agree, for the price, L’Oreal Volume Shocking is quite excellent but of course there are better (and pricier) mascaras out there. The next one I wanna try is DiorShow. I heard great things about it
Koukla, Diorshow is better compared to Loreal in terms of the texture of the Mascara, its not too drying. But for the 200rb (IIRC this is the price) I dont think I would want to buy it again. Cause it have the same effect with the Loreal mascara. Both have the same carbon black colour, hence making your lashes more visible. I also dont like the Diorshow cause the brushes is HUGE! Its almost imposible to reach the inside corner of your lashes!
Try to get the sample size in ITC so that you can try it out first before you buy the full size product.

Ati-ati pake maskara ini.. temen gw pake.. bulu matanya kok kaya bisa diitung pake jari.. kaya duri kaktus menusuk-nusuk.
Mungkin emang butuh latihan kali yah kalo mo pake maskara ini.
Kalo mau coba pake Loreal Lash Architect atau Loreal double extention (yang ini juga formatnya sama kaya shocking volume, tapi lebih bagus jatuhnya kalo mnurut gw, dan lebih gampang aplikasinya)
Gw make dua2nya tergantung acara yg dihadirin.
Ada yang tau gak gimana cara memperbanyak bulu mata? Bulu mata gw tipis banget nih. Belom kalo di kucek2 pas bangun pagi, bisa rontok smua deh…

Thanks for the info! It would be great if I can get a sample size of the product before buying the full-sized one. I’ll look out for the diorshow the next time I’m in ITC

Banyak temen gue juga berpendapat kalo Volume Shocking ini bukan maskara terbaiknya L’Oreal, they still prefer the previous ones. Buat gue sih, setelah make produk ini sekitar 2 mingguan, yg paling menggangu adalah susah banget dibersihinnya. Walaupun udah pake oil cleanser, tetep aja masih ada sisa2 yg nempel, sehingga pas bangun tidur, mata gue jadi kayak mata raccoon gitu. Gue paling sebel sama maskara yg kayak gini krn bisa aja sisa2 produknya itu masuk ke mata gue dan bikin mata gue iritasi (pernah soalnya dan bikin agak trauma). So, my very final verdict is, I think I’m not gonna use this mascara too often and will look for another one with a less-drying formula. I’ll keep you guys posted!
Oh btw, for your question Lorelai, udah pernah nyoba produk2nya Talika? Dia punya produk yg namanya Lipocils Eyelash Conditioning Gel yg katanya bisa numbuhin bulu mata dalam waktu 28 hari. Gue sendiri blm pernah nyoba sih…

Iya…iya… memang shocking banget nih mascara.
Tapi karena bulu mataku gak panjang, jadi bisa aja dipake harian, cuma nggak sering2 juga sih, ngebersihinnya ribet.
Waktu pertama make, emang keliatan kaya kaktus gitu, ternyata tipsnya, bener, mesti zigzag gitu ngaplikasiinnya, klo searah jadi jarang2
Perasaan dr awal nie Maskara keluar gw dh pengen beli.tp gak pernah kesampean.Mala beli merk laen.
cepet Kering gak yah..
untung belum beli, waktu aku coba compare hasilnya sama Angel Eyes Tsuya Tsuya… jauh bedanya. Tsuya juga perlu trick yg tepat buat apply tapi hasilnya bisa di adjust.. buat hari2 cukup sekali buat make acara lebih heboh tinggal di tambah lagi langsung kaya falselashes… well beauty need practice..
