Bandung Shopping Scene

Hanzky in Ask Fashionese, Travel — December 12th, 2006

Dear Fashionese,

I am an avid reader of your blog. The question I’d like to ask you is regarding Bandung, since you are Indonesian.

I’d like to know about:
• recommended factory outlets and brands they sell
• whether there are authentic designer bags sold in Bandung (LV,Gucci,Coach,Chanel) and their pricing
• whether there are premium denim labels such as Rock and Republic,True Religion,Seven etc
• factory outlets that might sell make up? Such as Benefit, Stila etc

I hope you could assist me with my inquiries, if you don’t mind, that is.
Keep writing and I’d like to say thank you so much in advance. Have a great day!

Hi there,

As far as I know there’s no authentic designer bags in Bandung, unless the malls have Gucci/LV or other high-end brands. I’m sure there is one or two boutiques that cater designer bags, but I haven’t been to Bandung for a long time, so I’m not very familiar with the shopping scene either. There’s no coach store in Bandung, not even in Jakarta…the closest one is in Bali.. and sadly there’s no Chanel boutique in Indonesia either…only Singapore…and maybe KL?

I’m not sure about the factory outlets either..I’m planning to visit Bandung next week..but then it would be too late. Hey maybe now you can give me some recommendations…=)

Premium denim labels (the authentic ones) are sold in a few boutiques in Jakarta, maybe some high profile boutiques in Bandung have them, but they are pretty rare and pricing would be around Rp 1.5 million and up. The ones in the factory outlets are knockoffs, with the price ranging from Rp 150-Rp 250 ribu.

There’s no factory outlet that sells make up. Factory outlets only sell products that are made in Indonesia and are supposed to be sent overseas for exports. Brands like Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Aeropostale, Abercrombie, DKNY and some others that have factory in Indonesia can be found in the outlets. I think they are oversupply or maybe the quality control is not that secured so a few items go to the wrong hand. Hope that helps.
