i’m drowning in magazines

i have lots of indonesian magazines that i just received recently, there’s more in the car, in the bathroom and in my bedroom that i didn’t bother to take pictures…well i am afterall a self proclaimed magazine whore for as long as i remember, hehe…i remember my first GADIS subscription when i was in my elementary school, it was the new year edition, the cover was susan bachtiar, the color was black and she was carrying a yellow umbrella, hehe, i remember all of the osella t-shirt and Hani & Roberts ads, i still remember all of the gadis sampul too, waktu itu jamannya siti rakhmayanti, ersa mayori, clara nelly, etc..ahh i’m sure my mom has thrown those magazines away. I used to read majalah Mode too. when i read magazine, i don’t just glance through the pages, i study them, i always look at the editor list, check who the models are, the photographer, the agency, the stylist, the location and everything else. i know i’m obsessed, and i spend lots of money on magazines whenever i go back home. here, the subscription is cheap, only $12 a year, that’s $1 per issue..much cheaper than the $4 per issue if you buy it from the newstands.

my favorite US magazine is Lucky, it’s a shopping magazine so don’t expect to find articles there but there’s so much stuff to drool over in that magazines, stuff that are more real and wearable, i like the fashion spread that shows you how to dress better and i like the editor picks too and how they put the pieces together.

i like W magazine too, it has exceptional fashion photography that are printed on an oversized format and interesting articles and interview. the magazine shows you the lifestyle of the riches, the artistic and luxury pieces.

right now, i’m contemplating to subscribe to WWD (womens wear daily) publication, it’s more like a tabloid/newspaper and it’s not cheap, it’s $200 a year, but it comes everyday. here’s a description from the website “WWD is dedicated to providing a balance of timely, credible business news and key women’s fashion trends to a dedicated readership. This readership includes retailers, designers, manufacturers, marketers, financiers, Wall Street analysts, international moguls, media executives, ad agencies, socialites and trend makers.“. Bottom line, it’s everything that i’m looking for. i’ve never read the paper since it’s subscription only, but i do buy the magazines that is issued every few months. in fact, i just won these on ebay, one is ‘one hundred years of fashion’ and the other one is WWD ninety, a special issue for its 91st anniversary.

some people keep their magazines and stack them nicely on the bookshelves, but if i do that then my house will be filled with magazines from wall to wall, so what i do is, i ripped the pages i like, throw out the rest and insert the pages into the transparent pocket and put them in the binder i got when i worked at GAP inc. It saves a lot of storage space and it also saves time when you want to look for something particular but forgot which magazine was that, or when you just want to look for inspiration. i absolutely love just flipping through the pages.

i also absolutely love flipping through those pages.. you are so creative mba!.. hehehe. favorite magazine? ehm.. not so much into magazines myself.. i’m more into books i think.

hey kamuu..i like books too you know, hehe although belum nyampe baca milan kundera siih..hehe tapi kan enggak kebanyakan baca chick lit juga kecuali sophie kinsela’s..:P

gilee rapinya…gw sih nyimpen majalah2 yang gw beli =)…but after sometime, gw discard deh..soalnya dah ga uptodate..gw lagi demen majalah JJ, majalah jepun. isinya tebal, banyak model2 baju…selain itu in-style (US), herworld (edisi singapore).enak ya di US majalah murah2 ya? di sini mahal2 instyle bisa sekitar 80ribuan per edisi, JJ 100. ihiks..demen mode juga dulu ya? gw kirimin ke email lo, lutu ini..tentang cover boy/girl jaman dulu..hahaha…

alice: iya sih lama lama nggak uptodate ya but fashion is always revolving..jadi pasti nanti nanti muncul lagi walaupun kapan tau..hehe. di toko buku sini nggak ada nih majalah jepang..waktu itu pernah belinya pas transit, iya emang tebel2 banget yah dan banyak model model baju/tas/sepatu2 gitu. btw makasih ya emailnya barusan gue baru nge glance gitu aja, ntar abis ini di liat liat lagi..pasti kocak..hehehe..ada denny priyatna segala….:D..ntar linknya gue liat2 juga deh..thank you yaa…=)

wow…now wonder we’re so clicked each other, han…we have so much in common somehow deh bu…
dont know why, but i keep finding things in you that are so common with me.
i do the same thing loh han. gue clipping things that i like from magz trus gue tempel di semacam logbook gue gitu. any informative info. tips lah. and including fashion stuff! ehiaiheaea…ternyata kita sama. cuma belakangan gue udah agak2 males nih. abis kan take times juga kalo kyk gitu. and i dont really have much time like before anymore hehehe…
wkt di US, gue tiap bulan pasti beli stack of magazines gitu. makanya pas kalo mo pindahan reseh. sayang juga kalo dibuang but apa boleh buat. ur fav magz is just like the same as mine. LUCKY! hihihi..seru yah. i like that magz so much since the beginning of its first publication. other magz i like itu tuh: marie claire, glamour, allure, InStyle, cosmopolitan, vogue, bazaar.

disini juga gue malah lebih gila beli magazinenya. Eve, Female, Bazaar, Her World, Dewi, plus skrg gue baca juga business/economic magz such as Bisnis Properti, Mix, Swa, Bisnis Ekonomi, Marketing, aduh lupa gue nama2 nya. tapi byk lah. i need it to update my business knowledge and network aja. oh ya plus, gue masih juga beli yah majalah2 US di atas itu, kalo lagi kbykan duit hahaha…atau biasanya tricknya gue beli off-date edition gitu. soalnya disini tuh ada tempat2 yg beli kalo udah outdated jadi belinya sama ama harga dari luar. paling bacanya jadi mundur 3-4 bulan gitu deh.
gue juga langganan koran bo wkt di US, hihihi..gila.

niweys, gue baca di blog elo. jadi pulang nih ya dec. asik asik. tar ketemuan kita hangout yah haaannn..kan rumah elo deket2 jg ma gue kali ini kita should spend time more nih.

hihi..iya betul betul, we’re so alike sebenernya yaa…sayang aja jauh..hehe..makanya nanti december jangan kemana mana so we can spend more time together..=))

oh iya gue juga kumpulin gambar gambar rumah and interior design dari majalah majalah, hehe. eh di sini ada majalah kaya lucky juga namanya SHOP, but i still like LUCKY better. Gila kalo di jakarta beli majalah melulu bisa bangrut la’, hehe..mana subscription price nya juga nggak beda jauh yah?..btw gue juga suka banget sama majalah SWA, that’s my favorite magazine selain majalah fashion..hehe, kalo dari sini sih cukup baca dari websitenya aja.

Eh tau nggak dulu gue pernah beli majalah VOGUE gitu di lampu merah di jakarta..ternyata itu majalah taun jebot aja gitu, tanggal depannya di ganti..rese gue di boongin..hehe.

jadi kangen ngobrol2 sama elo bu…:D

i may be in jkt sih dec. so far gak ada plan. but who knows juga. suka dadakan gitu loh gue kalo travel hehe…kyk yg last year itu kan, gue decide ke amerika like 2 wks before lagi hehe…mana dapet aja lagi tiketnya. padahal high season.

oh ya elo pernah diboongin? rese emang di indo, banyak penipuan bo. hihi…
gue pernah liat kyknya majalah SHOP itu. tapi lupa. mungkin not too impressed hehe. lucky magz dah. tau gak sih sampe gue demennya tuh majalah, gue smpt yg berangan2 pengen publish tuh majalah disini tp indonesian edition lah maksudnya. tipikal majalah franchise. or maybe bikin majalah yg sama kyk gitu. tapi magazine company itu perlu modal gede ya bu. udah gitu ROI nya bisa sampe 2-3 taon itu kalo laku.
ngeri deh kalo gak bisa keep up. mana skrg udah byk majalah banget di jkt.

kpn nih ngobs2. kangen juga nih gossipa gossipi hihihi..
elo jarang YM yah? gue padahal kalo malem suka online sekali2.

you know what, gue juga sering banget ngayal bikin semacam lucky magazine di jakarta..heheh..bikin gih la’..ntar gue jadi market editornya yaa yang kerjaannya ke butik2 untuk cari barang2nya..heheh….yahh besok gue online deh di YM yaa….

gue ada project nih. gimana kalo kita mencoba realisasikan something from scratch yg belum tentu yah people’re going to look at it at first. but who knows, they’ll be later. nanti deh ya kita ngobs2 di YM kalo pas gue liat elo nongol! hehehe..

hmm i think an indo version of lucky mag would b out soon.. there r too many magz right now in indo, n every girls r becoming stylists n editors.. and with devils w. prada has made it even worst.. =( everything is so predictable n mass product

anw, my fav fash. mag for now is teen vogue, followed by V magazine, visionnaire, french & italian vogue, W *depending on the issue, been an intern there so im not really keen anymore abt that mag!
WWD is a must for every fashion insider other than that i dont really care

Telat ga yah kasih komennya sekarang? Anyway, i’ve always been interested in magazines, Surface, GoGirl, ViVi, Vogue, Creative Review, Dazed n Confused, sampe National Geographic dilahap, asal ada yang provide ajah =D

aku suka majalah Horison, maklum anak sastra. Selalu menyempatkan baca Tempo walau gak selalu setuju isinya. Dulu aku suka DR, sayang bangkrut, padahal DR lah yang pertama mengungkap kasus genocidal rape Mei 1998. Sekarang karena ingin mencoba main saham, aku baca Kontan dan yang sejenis, tapi tetap belon punya nyali nih.
